Germany vs Scotland | Cappielow Kickoff - Greenock Morton FC (gmfc.net) Absolutely brilliant work from the club here. Great value for money with the £20 including your first beer of the night, a glass & some grub. Great to see the club working to generate some revenue by making use of facilities during the close season while taking advantage of the buzz around the Euros. I am very much looking forward to watching this match in the company of fellow ton fans!

Just seen a tweet from the club saying todays match can be streamed (including in UK) - what happened to the blackout on broadcasting 3 o’clock kick offs?

I was very impressed when I heard the attendance last night being announced (4,175 with about 250 Morton fans). At the moment we could only dream of getting close to 4k home fans on a regular basis. The only times we have got into that territory this season was for the games against Partick & Motherwell, and on both occasions the away support was a big factor. Looking at historic average attendances over the past 10 years, our fanbase during that time looks to be of a very similar size to Raith (from season 2012-13 to 2022-23 our average gate was 1,945 and Raith's 1,984, albeit they spent a couple more seasons in League 1 than we did). This season they have somehow managed to increase their average attendance by over 2k from last season. Even if you remove the derby against Dunfermline & 2 home games against Dundee Utd, their home average is still over 3K! It makes me wonder what (if anything) we could do to try and emulate this. Over the course of the season, this extra gate money could be worth up to 350K (based on the assumption of an increase of 2000 fans at £10 per person) - a serious amount of cash for a club at this level. I don't think its solely down to them having a good season - Raith have over 2000 season ticket holders so that is a significant number of people who made the commitment even before the season started. As far as I can see, they haven't been dropping their pants too much on ticket prices either(notwithstanding the excellent £10 price for last nights game) - I think their season tickets are about the same price as ours so I would like to see us look at how Raith have managed to be so successful in promoting ticket sales & try to see if we can learn any lessons from it. I suppose the elephant in the room is that prior to MCT takeover, fan-club relations were at quite possibly an all time low. Great progress has been made in repairing that, but maybe it will take a bit more time for goodwill to get back to anywhere near the levels it was in the early 2000's. (I have put this in here as opposed to the match thread as its a wider point about the clubs commercial operation rather than specific to last nights game)

I agree completely - there is still a lot of work to be done (as he acknowledged in the recent interview) but credit where its due for dealing with this issue promptly, as well as the recent contract extensions that have taken place.

Just One Cornetto - A Greenock Morton Podcast
Greacen2000 replied to Admin's topic in General Morton Chatter
I just finished listening back to the 4-part retrospective of the Rae years - a great listen and well worth checking out for anyone who hasn't listened to it before. Very well researched & covered a lot of stuff that I had completely forgotten about. Listening to it now after 2 and a half years of community ownership really puts into perspective how far we have come since then. May I suggest that in the future you consider doing something similar reviewing the HS years? I know this was a much shorter time span so probably wouldn't require as many episodes, but it was a very eventful time and there's plenty of stuff that would make for some pretty funny banter looking back (albeit none of us were laughing at the time). Keep up the good work guys & thanks for your efforts. Looking forward to hearing your reactions to the Arbroath game -

to be fair his statement to the tele went a bit further than that https://www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/24050011.complaints-queueing-morton-fans-miss-kick-off-big-game/ "Morton’s general manager Dale Pryde-Macdonald has told the Telegraph that the club will now look at the possibility of using hand-held scanners to relieve congestion."

great interview - all very positive - even down to being honest about the areas where we need to do better. I am really looking forward to seeing the 150th anniversary announcements which he hinted at.

Sportscene just showed Hopkin in the stand watching Queens Park v Dunfermline. The commentator said he has been brought in by QP to “help out” but didn’t mention in what capacity. I can’t find any info on it on P&B or anywhere else either - anyone heard about this? Hoping he will be taking over as manager
-
Any chance of a bit more info or a bit of a hint as to what this relates to? I thought that there might be some info on the podcast but there was no mention of it when they were discussing the AGM. I missed the meeting as was at a gig on Monday

yip I was thinking the same thing. Stack in Newcastle was brilliant too before it got shut down. There is a lot you can do with shipping containers and it needn't necessarily be temporary. With the proximity to Clydeport I would like to think there might be scope for some sort of a partnership/sponsorship deal with Peel Ports to provide the containers if we were to go down that route

Absolute legend - hopefully he did somersaults in front of their fans ????

Would definitely fit the bill if Oakley is going to be out for a while (as long as we’ve still got enough left over to bring in a right back!)
-
IIRC this was back around 2019-2020, and we have definitely returned back to Parklea since then (all the training videos shared last season as well as the one Spoonton mentioned above from last week were there). I suppose we have had a run of 3 weeks with no home games between Ayr & Arbroath so its possible that the groundsman decided the pitch could handle a few training sessions during that time.
-
Not sure that this is the best place to ask, but I didn't think it was worth starting a new thread for it - I have noticed on the clubs socials over the past week that the clips show the team training at Cappielow. There were quite a few comments made about the state of our pitch after the first couple of games(including from one of our own players). I thought it looked ok at the Ayr game and certainly looks fine in the training clips, but you would think that it will take its toll on the surface if we are going to be training on it longer term. Does anyone know why we are training at Cappielow instead of Parklea, and if this is just a temporary thing?

As far as I can see they aren’t official colabs with Umbro or Avec so I seriously doubt the club would get involved in bootleg/unofficial replica merch, given the possible legal implications etc. The tops both look like absolute crackers but given that are only being made in very limited numbers, I don’t see them as being a major threat to sales of our official shirts so my guess is that the club are ok with turning a blind eye to it. It’s pretty harmless and gives fans a chance to get their hands on an approximation of some sought after rare kits
-
Brandon Diau doorstepped the club (just showed up at the stadium and asked to speak to the coach) and ended up getting a trial with us, so (unless someone else has a better idea) there wouldn't be any harm in doing the same - head down to Cappielow or give the club a call.

To be clear, are you just talking about offering PPV option for pre-season games (and other ones that don’t fall under the broadcasting ban), or are you also talking about the overseas subscription service?
-
They started advertising full or half season overseas streaming subscription service last week so I would take that as meaning the decision has already been made to continue the service for the season ahead.
-
They were automatically issued to everyone who purchased the stream. I didn’t request it and would have been fine with letting them keep the fiver but thanks for your input ? I’m sure I will get over the embarrassment eventually
-
The refunds for the St Mirren stream have now been issued (or at least mine has!)

While my initial reaction to that shirt was “Ooft that’s honking”, I am actually starting to warm to it a bit. I like that the pinstripe is a nod to the McGraw era shirt, and the colour of it is also a bit of a throwback to the orange away/3rd kit we had in the late 70s. I have a bit of a soft spot for garish/loud away shirts so it ticks that box too. I just hope the stripes go all the way down the back too edit - just watched the video and it shows that the stripes do go all the way down the back. I think I might actually buy this one instead of the home kit this season
