I noticed on companies house that Harkins is no longer a director as of yesterday. Will be keeping an eye on it for additional filings coming up around the other directors mentioned above. The radio silence from MCT and the club is very concerning, adding to the lack of communications on other recent issues such as Andy Millen & the fifa registration ban.

I’m no expert, but does the fact that this is based on OTC trades (as opposed to being listed on an exchange) change this? Eg if a company that’s publicly traded sees a big slide in its value, that indicates a lack of confidence in the market with a lot of people selling off the shares with low demand from buyers. As I understand, OTC value is based on person to person trades, so couldn’t this drop in price just be due to a single transaction at an agreed (low) price? Without knowing who was selling and who was buying it is hard to interpret exactly what it means. Like I said, I’m no expert so am happy to be told I’m talking shite if someone else knows better. Just asking the question

As long as there aren’t any pieces of the structure which are loose or at risk of falling etc then they will still be able to play games at Cappielow either by cordoning off the affected area or by just letting people stand there anyway and get wet if it rains. It’s possible said contingency plan involves one of the above.

On the subject of the vacant plot of land (and lack of progress in the development thereof), obviously stuff like that has a tendency to slip down the list of priorities in light of our razor thin margins, especially so when unforeseen bills come up as we have seen today. My vision for developing it would be to look at cost effective ways of making use of the area without necessarily having to actually build a new bricks & mortar structure. I can imagine having some repurposed shipping containers around the perimeter which would be fitted out for bar, catering & toilet facilities, then a central area having some bench seating & being covered by a tensile fabric/shade sail to protect from the elements. The cost & timelines of planning & implementing this sort of a development would be significantly less than putting up a new building in the plot. There are also a lot of businesses in the local area who would be well positioned to help with these sorts of plans (peel ports for the containers, several sailmakers nearby for the canopy, builders & joiners for the ground work & fit out etc). Obviously it would still require the club to invest a significant sum of money, but there could be potential there to have some of the costs covered by these businesses in exchange for promotion/advertising etc, and we could end up with something that would function as a fan zone on matchdays and have potential as a mixed use venue for hire the rest of the time.

Absolute nightmare for the club but not exactly surprising. That roof has been there over 20 years IIRC and has been showing signs of its age for some time now. There is no such thing as a good time for this to happen, but it is a real kick in the balls for this to come hot on the heels of the repair bill for the gas leak and at a time when our cashflow will have been pretty much zero for almost a month Hopefully we are covered for these repairs under insurance, and any shortfalls on that front can be met per above suggestions by crowd funding and/or support from local businesses. Could also be an opportunity for the club to sell advertising/sponsorship space on the new roof (I am sure that Fir park has or at least used to have adverts on the roof of a similarly constructed stand). Probably unrealistic but wouldn't it great if there was a way of installing a camera gantry at the same time as replacing the roof.

Gutted to see him join one of our rivals but he was never going to be coming back here with the history between him & Dougie (whatever that is) along with what happened when he left us last time. Even if there had been a chance of us signing him, unlike last season I wouldn’t have wanted it to happen. I’m happy with the job Delaney is doing there, and if funds are available in January there are other positions that need strengthened more urgently.

It should be pretty easy to measure the success (or otherwise) by comparing takings from catering & 50/50 during the trial matches with other matches with similar attendance. Then other factors such as getting feedback from staff & stewards on how they felt it went & whether they observed longer queues etc.

Very sad news indeed. When we almost won back to back promotions in 94-96, at the time his coaching was given a lot of the credit for our success in those seasons he was here as Mcgraws assistant. When he returned as manager a few years later it was a popular appointment, with many (myself included) hoping he would be able to recapture some of that form. Sadly it didn't work out - albeit this was during some of the darkest days of the club and probably nobody could have done any better under the circumstances. He had a brilliant career as a player and will rightly be remembered as a Liverpool legend. Apparently he had been suffering from dementia which is a horrible way to lose someone - thoughts are with his family & friends Former Hibs, Liverpool & Scotland midfielder Peter Cormack dies - BBC Sport

I’m not sure what you mean. I wasn’t for a second suggesting it would be as a player, and with him working at a car dealership a coaching role would seem unlikely too. But as a former captain who has played over 200 times for the club and is moving back down to the area, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him involved at the club in some capacity. It’s not uncommon for ex players take on ambassadorial roles or hosting on match days etc
-
He is a bit of a legend down there so I wouldn’t be surprised if he combines it with the some sort of role at Lincoln city. Even if that’s not the case I’m sure he has enough goodwill in the bank to make a few sales off fans who are in the market for a fancy motor

I know that some on here aren’t keen on the various Morton related Facebook groups but it’s worth checking out Chris Mcnultys post about Martin Doak on the Greenock Morton Old Photos group - lots of lovely comments from a who’s who of Morton legends of the 80s & 90s https://www.facebook.com/1395730088/videos/488643577449277/

Yeah I am (just) old enough to remember the ‘87 one but not ‘84. Definitely one of the most iconic Morton players of my years following us as his time with the club spans me being a primary school kid going with my uncle right up to being a teenager going into the cowshed with my mates. Aye I was shocked when I heard as I don’t reckon he could be much older than 60
-
Very sad to hear that Martin Doak passed away. He was a great servant to the club and an ever present during my first few seasons going along to Cappielow as a lad

Where exactly did anyone claim that Dale was the best possible candidate out of all the applicants?
-
Perhaps, but even with that being the case we will still be towards the bottom end of the salary football clubs offer for these types of role.
-
It’s horses for courses I’m afraid. Just as we currently operate close to the bottom of the market for what we pay full time professional footballers, I expect the same to be the case for management/executive positions. As such any local candidates with more talent/ qualifications/ experience are likely already employed in roles that pay more than we can offer
-
What stark reality is that? Feel free to highlight which of the points you feel it wouldn’t be possible for us to make progress on
-
Dales comments from 15:50 onwards in this video would suggest otherwise (and it’s not the first time that the strategy has been discussed in these interviews). I don’t really think that so-called “evidence” from what other clubs are doing (or what we have done under the previous regime) is terribly relevant to our current situation. Until there is good reason to do otherwise, I will take these updates from the club at face value rather than indulging in speculation and hyperbole.
-
You mentioned 1 out of 18 goals which the document contains. The buck will stop with Dale for many if not all of these. We are less than 6 months into this 3 year strategy, so no I don’t expect Dale to get emptied if we fail to make the top 4 this season. I do fully expect that every one of the items contained therein will be reviewed on a regular basis, with the expectation that progress is being made towards them.
-
I think Dales statement after the game mentioned him supporting the decision of the safety advisors or something like that. I’m not sure whether that means from the police or from within the club (I suspect the latter as it didn’t explicitly mention the police). Either way it turned out to be the wrong call but at least there was a statement made to address it and provide a bit of transparency I am not for 1 minute trying to defend Dale here and saying he is doing a great job etc. All I’m saying is that a clear set of success measures have been laid out, and it’s upon them which his performance will be measured and to which he will be held accountable
-
what other gaffes? I’m not doubting you - I must have missed them all
-
That’s absolutely shocking. I’ve been to previous open days and spent a lot of cash on merchandise, a sponsored step in the main stand, and the previous seasons training gear. I can’t believe that the club have done nothing at the open day to try and make a bit of cash. Wow
-
He made a gaffe, nobody is denying that. All I’m saying is that ultimately his performance will be judged on things other than this single utterance.
-
The goals have been published by the club in a document that’s been discussed at length both on here and in several of Dales updates. The main 2 of which are financial sustainability and establishing ourselves as regular top 4 playoff contenders. Yes the 5,000 average gate thing was demonstrably incorrect, but I don’t get why people are queuing up to pounce on the guy over this. A lot of progress has been made to the running of the club but Dale is the first guy to admit that more must be done and that he himself too has room for improvement and a lot to learn.
