Murray must go

No manager in the history of Morton Football Club would have survived what is happening at our club at the moment. The board have to act now before crowds dwindle even further than they have.

Last week showed a bit of fight and recovery but by all accounts it's back to the same old this week. We're in freefall. No goals all season, wild. It's untenable.

Keeping Murray will cost more to the club than getting rid of him. I was planning on doing hospitality again at least once this year and bringing a few friends including some visiting from Australia. I won't do that if Murray is in charge because it would be a waste of their money and limited time. The crowds will disappear. He's tactically not good enough, he's not a motivator and he's not a leader off the pitch for the club either.

Aye, there's got to be a balanced approach. 

Obviously there's costs, etc and it's not pure profit but 1000 people paying £20 a ticket is 20 grand so if the crowds keep dropping and there's less interest in hospitality it pays for itself (if the new manager can turn things around). 

That said, the current board and club staff have no footballing experience at all and Estrella do. Could be a case of holding off to get their input into the recruitment process.

Seeing the crap served up by Murray each week makes me realize how good a job Imrie did. Not just with the squad and results but also the general feeling around the club.

Don’t see him turning it round, his approach of talking the players down to protect his own reputation is only going to make things even worse.

When we do make the change, and it is now a matter of when, we need someone to bring a bit of fighting spirit and belief to the whole club. We saw how powerful that can be when Imrie was appointed.

Even at the end of last season with more of a squad and depth we were still woeful under him and only survived by a baw hair.

I completely understand at this moment the club isnt in a good place with finances and just in general but his recruitment has been poor with the limited funds he has by signing about 10 centre midfielders, he doesn't help himself with the post match interviews and I don't see any fight in the squad at all under him. 

If we get rid of him though who exactly is going to be able to turn this mess around.

By the second half yesterday, we were without Wilson, Cochrane, Longridge, Ballantyne and Savoury (as well as Gorman and Robertson). The Dalrada mess had already left us unable to properly build a squad. What was left in the second half was a mix of players which probably represented a League Two level team at best.

Even with the players that are/were missing there is still no goals among them.

This genuinely feels like we could be headed towards a brechin-esque points total if nothing changes here.  Yes there are mitigating circumstances in terms of injuries etc but I still can’t really see a way that Murray comes through this.  Unfortunately i don’t have any ideas about who would be a viable replacement, and with us already struggling to sign a full squad of players the last thing we need is to be using up budget on a pay off/garden leave for Murray.  The only hope is that he walks away to try and preserve what little reputation he has left.

I mostly agree (Savoury is capable and hopefully Gorman is too), and that's why the Dalrada mess had been so debilitating. What we're lumped with spending on Brophy is never going to be a sensible return for us. And we're short of a proper left back and wingers/forwards, mostly because of the knock on of Dalrada not paying up.

Black Moore Fairnie Mcluckie 

Gillespie Sandilands 

Greenock Carse OHalloran 

O’Toole 

That’s not even Lowland League standard. No matter how unfortunate Murray has been with injuries (albeit who would have thought having a pre season without any games would cause issues), his squad building has been shambolic.

He cannot be trusted with what remaining budget we have left.

That's not Murray's fault, though, which I've seen people say. We didn't have enough players to have a proper preseason. I'm not going to say that I agree with every signing, but I do think we're in a very difficult position. Especially because there should be additional funding down the road if Dalrada pay up, and we have to take a longer view on putting together the squad. 

If you're missing 6 or 7 first team players and been denied (what, 3 or 4?) first team signings due to issues with the main sponsor then it's going to be a struggle.

Was thinking about this earlier from day one people bought into imrie.

 

Murray has never had a connection with the fans and is further increasing this gap the longer he stays.

Clearly the manager has the final say in everything, but I’m surprised that our “Head of Recruitment” Bill Orr has largely escaped criticism. It’s the 10th of August and he has only found 1 new defender (from the deepest depths of the English non-league) to add to the 3 we already had?

Murray delegating his whole recruitment remit to his sidekick is also very symptomatic of his lack of personal responsibility since coming in.
