ConTon74 Posted July 31 Posted July 31 It’s almost as if signing/re-signing injury prone players was a good idea. 1
2bobbylinns Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Has Gillespie not played right back before? Moving him back with Cochran and Wilson in front might be better. also means that if we need to use one of the young lads then they can go into midfield and play their proper position. 1

Popular Post bob_the_builder Posted July 31 Popular Post Posted July 31 Must just have been a misunderstanding, its not as if there are people out there trying to undermine or sabotage the hard work of people (mostly volunteers) trying to keep the club they support going....... 1 5 here today, gone to hell

Gillespie has played there but was terrible, frankly - not his fault, but he has none of the attributes to be defending against skill or pace in wide areas. The reality is that we went into the League Cup games woefully underprepared, and are still heading into the league in the same position, bar a hopeful fix to the GK issue. If we avoid getting leathered tomorrow then it will be a relief. And we then need to have a credible squad by next week's game at Ochilview for everyone at the club's sake. The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
dunning1874 Posted July 31 Posted July 31 (edited) Aye, can't believe I'm actually advocating taking Wilson out of midfield with how much I railed against it last year but in Ballantyne's absence and now that we have Cochrane to provide some legs there, muddling through with Wilson who'll do a better job at full back than Gillespie while Cochrane, Gillespie and Sandilands can be a midfield three is better than trying to get through a game with Gillespie in defence. That way if we end up needing to use O'Toole, Black or Murphy through a lack of alternatives it can at least be in midfield. Won't be able to use Carse tomorrow as trialists aren't allowed in the Championship. RossMcC1874 Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Can't see anything other than a horsing today. Hopefully get a few more bodies back over the next couple of weeks and maybe more signings through the door if possible as still pretty light in general. Lets hope our new goalie makes the same impact Storer did last season we may need something like that if we have any hope of survival considering the shambles we have been in pre season.
HamCam Posted August 1 Posted August 1 I did laugh when Murray said early in this week's interview everyone including the fans should be excited at the start of the new season. Given the man's previous interviews and the shambles of the cup outings, I have never been less excited for the start of a campaign. I am just hoping we do not get embarrassed most weeks.
port-ton Posted August 1 Posted August 1 There’s an opportunity for the club to create a siege mentality and try and galvanise the fan base to come out and support the club through a difficult time and get more fans through the gates than usually would with a team this bad, but that will need an actual online campaign that is taken on by fans rather than hoping it happens by asking the most depressing man who’s already given up and went full Gus Macpherson in giving the squad all the excuses they need to fail to tell fans how badly they’re needed in pre match interviews that barely anyone bothers watching. 1 1 Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

We've created some chances. New keeper looks confident coming for the ball. Partick have been as bad at finishing as we have, but have probably had the better chances. 3
Jani Inenuot Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Caught short on the break. Shame because we were getting more confident going forward. Scunnered of late partick goals.

arthurmontfordsjacket Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Last season it looked like linesmen had been told to just run the line, flag offside, forget the rest

Scunnered of late partick goals. Behave, that was refereeing error of the year. Sure if we sat back we'd have more cover around the penalty spot l, but you can't really legislate for when a linesman decides he's a dozy week prick and won't follow the laws of the game. I've been one of Murray's biggest critics but this has been good, all things considered. Hopefully this puts a bit of fire around the place. If that was me in the dugout and I was talking to the media after the game, I'd be getting an SFA fine. Absolutely sick of these holier than thou wee sadact refs who demand respect from everyone but won't do the bare minimum of what they're paid to do and take no responsibility for their game-changing errors. 6 Morton
