It's a shame that Ian Murray, first team manager, and Ian Murray, arranger of friendlies, could not come to terms on an appropriate pre season preparation.

We cant afford to treat these cup games as glorified friendlies its a form of income which is badly needed at the club,your hoping to get through and get a Celtic/Rangers or try and progress further into the competition,

by the time the Inverness game comes around nobody will be wanting to pay into a meaningless game

I was watching the highlights of the game on Linlithgow's YouTube feed.
One thing that I noticed was that in the highlights there was no steel whatever in the Morton team. They were being muscled off the ball on almost every occasion.
That's the part that's worrying me

I didn't attend yesterday so can only form an opinion on the highlights, forum comments and the match stats. We had zero shots on target against a.lowland league. The pitch was a disgrace yet Murray was complimenting it in pre match interview. And apparently we are skint so things unlikely to improve. I'm not sure if its Murrays responsibility to arrange friendlies but if it is he should be dismissed now. We will be heading to the seaside.leagues very soon. Sad state of affairs.....

This whole “disappointing but people need to understand where we are as a club” stuff we’re getting is wild, talking to the tele about “blocking out criticism.” We’ve just been battered at home to Linlithgow Rose. Where could we possibly be “as a club” that goes any way towards justifying it, and exempt the players from listening to the criticism? Worrying refusal to take it on the chin.

Agreed. Linlithgow Rose probably have a League 2-ish squad (they would've had a decent chance of promotion if they held the proper licences), but are we really such a sorry state that we shouldn't be dealing with them as a matter of course? 

We started the game with 3/4 of last seasons defence, plus another 4 players with loads of Championship/Premiership experience. Well organised sides from several steps down the pyramid shouldnt be getting near us.

If Murray's genuine opinion of Morton is that, as a club, it's defensible to record zero shots on target against a Lowland League side, something went very wrong in the interview process and he shouldn't be here.

The pre-match interviews are a bit depressing. Feels very flat, as if they don't really believe there's much they can do at this stage. Maybe that's just how I'm feeling about it. 

It definitely feels like things haven't been great behind the scenes. It's giving the same type of vibes as when Imrie was being told his budget was getting cut more than he expected.

It would be interesting to know the reasons behind some decisions, like why Longridge was retained early and then given the left back role (which he seemed to be finished with at this level at this stage in his career). Or why we signed another young centre half instead of trying to retain Owens (or did he not want to stay because he wanted to go back to Hamilton?). We've not talked much about transfer activity at all recently, even though we seem to have gaping holes in the squad.

A little annoyed by his comment about it being "disappointing but not really unexpected" with regards to level of preparation.

Should a full time professional football club really be expecting to enter its first competitive game in that state?

I also have a problem with this. Regardless of the club being skint or whatever, it would be good if someone could nudge Murray about the language he uses in interviews. If he thinks he can't succeed at the job then he should resign from it. He's actively going to turn folk away from the gates before they even see the football to moan about it.
