The only reason a business would wait if to get is at the very lowest point (Easdales style) but if that's their approach rather than being genuine do we actually want it?

Fwiw, being the first team to never score in the league cup is  a disgrace. I could get ten mates who'd easily get better stats against us (and have done around the same time of the season).

MCT has run the show since 2021 and appointed Dougie Imrie as manager shortly afterwards, and since then we've finished 7th, then 5th (missed the playoffs on goal difference), then 5th, then 6th, then a poor 8th. We'll do well to scrape 9th this season.

This kind of finish is similar to what we achieved while spaffing the Raes' money. It's not been a bad five years at all, despite all the drama.

In the interim the likes of Dunfermline and Partick have spent literally millions of pounds between them trying and failing to get to the promised land, and they're both significantly bigger clubs than Morton, like it or not. Ross County are seaside-bound despite all the AMBISHUN from Uncle Roy.

The Dalrada fallout has been a disaster, yes. But we are debt-free, our ground is ringfenced under community ownership, and if not for a manager who's clearly packed it in we'd be going into the season as underdogs but ready for a fight.

I'd take our position over that of County or Accies any day of the week. Are we probably fucked this season? Yes. Are we able to persist as a going concern? Yes, and that's without a moneyman. If Uncle Roy pulled his money tomorrow Ross County wouldn't exist, and Accies have a long road ahead of them. I'd take our position ahead of having Oli Shaw in the team.

Worth noting that the comment in the club's financial update everyone seized on to now say "we have the lowest budget and can't compete" was Graham Barr saying "it's probably one of the lowest, if not the lowest in the division." So the board aren't certain that it is actually lower than at least one other club, and the obvious candidate for that would be Stenhousemuir.

Stenhousemuir won their League Cup group without losing, drawing 2-2 at Firhill and holding Livingston to a 0-0. Nothing such an esteemed manager as Marvin Bartley can do to overcome the budget I guess!

Other teams have failed to score in previous years, so we aren't the first. But we're not in good company with the likes of Peterhead, Cowdenbeath, Brechin, Stirling, and Brora.

You know what really annoys me about attitudes like this, is that once it becomes widespread it drives clubs to sell up to ill intentioned opportunists.

If any fan base in the country should know better than to fall into that trap it should be us. But here we are, and you’re not the only one, with fans so insistent that MCT is the source of every problem that we simply must sell up fully and immediately to anyone at any cost. 

We didn’t choose MCT over some rich benefactor, they took over because we didn’t have one. Now we’re in the process of selling a portion of the club to an external company and the cry is that it won’t work because MCT will still own a majority. 

If things go well with Estrella then MCT members are very welcome to engage with the board and put forward a motion to offer them majority ownership through the sale of further shares. If things don’t go well, (consider the current Dalrada cash flow issues) then we’ll be glad we didn’t sell up fully to either of the two external funders we’ve managed to find since the Raes. 

And I cannot be clear enough on this last point - none of the above is the reason for us losing to Linlithgow Rose.

Just out myself through the highlights from yesterday, and we looked absolutely diabolical. Passing was all over the place, out muscled constantly in defence, and didn't appear to have any sort of idea what we were doing in the final third.

Unless we can get things sorted with our finances and get a few more players in, this is going to be a painful watch this season.

McKenzie Carse is not going to solve any of the problems in this squad.

Also worth noting that our last actual moneybags-funded season was 2012/13 (14 years ago), where we finished a glorious 2nd to Partick Thistle in the old First Division and got papped out all the cups at the earliest opportunity. 

Our Titan of Industry then took the huff, hacked the budget, signed a load of unknown regens and we got relegated the next season after the manager chucked in the towel. So, no real success on the park and a similar situation to the one we're in now.

There's a local business who make money from either forcing other companies out of business or waiting to get the best possible deal for them - I'd rather take a chance on fan ownership than a couple of chancers who could help if they wanted rather than only when it was better for them.
