Tubes Posted April 18 Posted April 18 How we didn’t change it sooner when they went down to 10 men was baffling. Fair play taking off White at half time, absolutely honking performance. Owen’s should be starting for us, he’s always looked very assured. Thought the game was crying out for a Delaney for Longridge substitution early in the second half. Some good saves from Ferrie today but the Shaw and Main chances should’ve been buried, so poor from them. The amount of chances we have missed this season is worrying.
CM48 Posted April 18 Posted April 18 That was incredibly frustrating today, and it’s hard to disagree with everyone’s angry posts, but, we’ve all seen teams, especially mediocre ones like us, struggle against 10 men, and we dominated that game today in the 2nd half. Murray has put out a side that created 24 shots forcing 11 saves, plus a goal that I’m not sure why it was disallowed. In Main Brophy (admittedly not fit) and Adeloye we’ve been lumped with 3 of the least effective finishers I think I’ve ever seen at Cappielow, and that’s before we get to the wingers. Dunning and others on here usually give good, informed analysis and I can’t disagree with a lot of what’s posted but if anyone offered us 24 attempts at goal pre kick off I’d be delighted! I don’t even know what point I’m trying to make here, but I do know I’m still shitting it for the next couple of weeks and am in serious need of more VikingTon rants about how we’re absolutely safe! 1

It certainly thought I saw it hit the ground behind the line, but that doesn't always mean all of the ball was in. I looked up hopefully at the linesman to see him running back towards the goal line from goodness knows where.

I actually agree with the point I think you’ve made. If you create that many chances, have at least one goal disallowed and the other keeper has the performance of a lifetime, I don’t blame the manager. As angry as I am, I don’t think the manager can do more than that. There’s things he could do differently and changes I’d like him to make for the upcoming games, but the players should have got us over the line today. 2

I looked up hopefully at the linesman to see him running back towards the goal line from goodness knows where. I was in Cappie's Corner, dead level with it - it wasn't in. It was close, but not over the line. As for the game - a rotten first half and a brilliant second, with our inability to score costing us yet again. I don't think I can blame Murray for any of this; he's done as well as the person who assembled this squad. I'm happy to let him clear out and rebuild as he sees fit. We've got a very mediocre group who are producing mediocre stuff. Give him the chance to recruit those who can play the way he wants and body the rest. Although, I'm still not confident as to which league we'll be playing in, and won't be until the arithmetic is sorted. And I do think whichever championship team ends up in the playoffs will go down. 1
Popular Post Deego Posted April 18 Popular Post Posted April 18 I’ve been very keen to see Longridge at left back all season and now that I’ve seen it I never want to see it again. 3

Wilson should consider himself very fortunate to be on yours or anyone’s list after the past two weeks, frankly. He's had two poor games, but he's also been played out of position for no reason when he's been our player of the season by a distance in his natural position. Was it over? I had a good view as was directly behind the goal. Sadly it didnt cross the line. Incidentally: I made more saves than Storer in the first 20 minutes. And lets not forget QP missed an absolute sitter early on when skying the ball over the bar when would have been easier to pass into an empty net. Edited April 19 by Wee Dublin End

Popular Post port-ton Posted April 19 Popular Post Posted April 19 Thought we played quite well vs 10 men and you can’t really ask for more than creating as many clear cut chances as we did. Yet again our issue this season is missing absolutely massive chances that other teams in the division would never miss on a regular basis. It’s actually been comically bad throughout the whole season. I remember a stat under Imrie saying we had missed the most big chances in the league this season and we surely must have considerably extended our lead at the top of the league since then. Im not really getting the Shaw hate yesterday, I thought he had one of the better games I’ve seen him have for us. Watching the highlights back he’s involved in so many of our good moves and deliveries in to the box. There are parts of Main’s game that I like as a focal point with a bit of mobility once he gets ahead of steam that we haven’t had since Oakley left but him and Moffat are two of the worst finishers in the history of association football and you are never confident that either of them are going to score even the simplest of chances. 3 Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!
TopCat Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Those highlights - good grief. The 3 chances in a row in the 2nd half (Shaw, Garrity and Moffat) were ridiculous. What's also missing from the highlight reel is the number of balooned or scuffed deliveries from Moffat and Shaw, under no pressure at all from the 10 men (noting that they did also create a lot of chances). We actually played some decent football in the buildup once Lopata-White went off, but I can't take any argument for re-signing any of our forwards seriously. The quality required isn't going to magically appear next season. 1
SpoonTon Posted April 19 Posted April 19 1 hour ago, Mr.Blue said: Guesswork then. I'm not really sure what your point is here. It's just what they saw, which is what I saw as well, and what the highlights back up - the ball bounces in towards the goal and down (at least mostly) behind the line before coming back out. You can see in the image I've added that as the ball bounces the goalline is still fully visible in front of it. Whether a small part of the ball was still over the line, I don't know, but I had a very good view of it at the time from the Sinclair St end and the highlights have done nothing to change my view on it.

Guesswork especially as the highlights are completely inconclusive. Thanks for clearing that up. Watched the highlights back and Main, Moffat and Garrity have completely fucked that for us yesterday. Main had numerous chances to score and as a proven goalscorer he must put at least 1 away. Moffat not hitting the target when through one on one isn't good enough and Garrity missing the target with a free header is unacceptable. Yes Ferrie had a great game but the amount of chances we had and not to win the game is criminal. We only have ourselves to blame for still being caught up in this relegation battle. I do actually think Murray got it wrong at 11 v 10. One of things he's changed that's seen both Moffat & Shaw look better through his time in charge is consistently playing them on their natural side letting them get outside full backs, whereas both of them had far more bad games than good under Imrie with his insistence on inverting them so they could cut inside and shoot, usually very badly. Yesterday both of them were having poor games - primarily because the shape of the team was obviously wrong with the lack of a central midfield making every other part of the team worse as well - so he tried switching Moffat and Shaw over in the first half. Fine, we did get more creative in the first half after the switch then they were chopping and changing in the second half at 11 v 11, but then we spent most of the time at 11 v 10 with Shaw on the right & Moffat on the left. The sheer amount of the ball we had with Queen's Park camped 25 yards out meant they both did put some good deliveries in, but for both of them the bad ones that haven't made it to the highlights outnumbered them and at a time we needed urgency, they both slowed us down so much cutting inside. We needed to move the ball quickly to stretch Queen's Park a bit and draw them out which we couldn't do because both wingers were inverted. It's why we actually got better with Delaney as a winger, we at least had one who could go outside a full back. You can point to the number of chances we created from firing the ball into the box so often as meaning a manager can't really do more as he can't go on the park and score on their behalf, but we were playing 10 men who had accepted that they just had to camp in their box and try to defend what we sent in. It's inevitable that you create some chances when you're given that much of the ball for 35 minutes, I think we'd have had a chance of more and better deliveries with the wingers back on their natural side. I agree with Moffat but I thought Shaw was absolutely fine on the right (and I’m someone who complained in the first half when they switched because it not a fan of Shaw on the right) Shaw put in some good balls with both feet in the second half and wasn’t scared to run towards the byline on occasion. He had a couple of shockers as well but that’s par for the course at this level and not many of them were as bad as Wilson’s efforts at crosses from deep. I would have preferred Delaney and Shaw on the wings for longer for the reasons you say about Delaney but that’s more to do with Moffat being ineffective than Shaw. 1 Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!
