DunTon Posted May 2 Posted May 2 (edited) In a perfect world we keep Wilson, Blues, Delaney, Owens, Ballantyne and Storer, but at least one (or probably more) of them will be leaving so I'd also keep Gillespie (50/50 on this, and definitely not if Wilson is here next season) and O'Halloran (Under 19s coach already so don't see why not as he still provides something). The rest can go. Edited May 2 by DunTon

Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't Dalrada's funding reduce if they leave before the end of their contracts? If so, we're essentially getting them for free, so might as well keep them for cover if nothing else.
Dolan1874 Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Would only be keeping Ballantyne, Owens, Wilson and Blues. The rest I would be happy to see go. A real refresh is needed next season. 1

I'm not a fan of the whole Dalrada setup where it's keep players who are here or lose money. It's easy to say it's a free player to fill the squad but a manager has to deal with a player wanting a game and possibly disruptive because of it so hopefully we don't end up with players there through that. Edit to add - replied to the wrong post. Edited May 2 by irnbru

Your transition strategy would have been perfectly reasonable, had said players performed to anywhere near an acceptable level over the past 8 weeks. They didn't though. Stuffing next season's squad with the same dross because Dalrada is paying for it sends the worst possible signals about lowering standards - yet further - than they've already been. This squad needs purged. Cet Homme Charmant Posted May 2 Posted May 2 (edited) But if they're under contract you'd have to compensate them to get rid, unless the leave voluntarily. So if the choice is keep for free or pay them to leave, the latter makes no sense. Unless of course Dalrada picks up the tab Edited May 2 by Cet Homme Charmant

Unless of course Dalrada picks up the tab We only have 5 players who are under contract for next season: Murdoch, Moore, Longridge, Robertson and Brophy. Of those, Brophy is the only one you’d imagine we could possibly part ways with, if his injuries don’t clear up. But if Dalrada are paying his wages there wouldn’t seem to be much point in paying him to leave.

Murdoch better off being sent out on loan, Murray doesn't seem to trust Moore and Longridge would be fine as a squad player. Robertson has apparently been very good for EK and id hope he's coming back a more consistent player. Brophy if fit I'd be happy for hi to stay. Said recently that is be happy for Ballantyne, Blues, Shug and Main to stay as well but I know others disagree. Read somewhere that Blues and Shug have offers elsewhere. Robertson has fell out the starting 11 at EK, been on the bench the last 4 games. I'm not convinced he'll be ready to come back and play Championship football consistency. Wouldn't be surprised he he moves on to find 1st team football. 1

We only gave him the new contract at the end of February, he'll definitely be part of the squad. If they haven't contributed enough on the park, they shouldn't be in next season's squad. 1 The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. Mr.Blue Posted May 4 Posted May 4 Wonder if we'll be waiting until after the playoffs to announce any movement within the current squad. Have to imagine some players will have moves lined up or a deal is on the table from us. Not sure why the playoffs would have any bearing on that bar a direct transfer of one of the players with a contract for next season. Could understand not announcing an incoming if their current team has games but outgoings/new deals could be announced whenever. Anyway, start the truck and announce who's being loaded on to it.

It essentially reported a sourceless rumour that Morton approached Rangers, and the rest was absolute speculation about them ditching their agreement with Raith Rovers to cooperate with us. The article ended with the suggestion that "Rangers were approached for comment" and I wouldn't be surprised if they returned a comment that the article was bullshit. 1
