AyrshireTon Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Can see we are all buzzing for this..... Third time lucky getting to hospitality today (Pars game was postponed, Partick game was moved), so if the team wouldn't mind avoiding scoring any early 2nd half goals I'd much appreciate it. In truth, with the suspensions and the injuries it's hard to see past the obvious outcome, but I'd bite your hand off for a draw. Fresh stain on the floor when I moved in. He may have checked out short of a useful amount of blood.
dunning1874 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Obviously there's a glaring question of who we play up front with Brophy injured and Main suspended, but I'm more concerned about the midfield. After conceding 6 goals in 2 games against sides in the bottom three and what St Johnstone have done to us twice this season, the last time at Cappielow being in no small part due to having MacPherson in a midfield two, we cannot afford to be so soft in midfield again. Having said last week that I would put Wilson in midfield but could understand Murray keeping him at centre back, I don't think that would be understandable at all for this one. The midfield needs Wilson and an extra body as well; even with Wilson in the two, another 4-2-3-1 will see us overrun again. Ideally it'd be Wilson, Gillespie and Blues but I'm guessing if Blues is back in the squad it'll be on the bench, with Murray mentioning needing to bring players back in a week or two earlier than planned with so many missing. Even if Lopata-White doesn't make it, and it sounds like he's borderline from Murray's preview, Owens and Moore at centre back with Wilson and Gillespie in front of them is a more solid defensive foundation than Wilson plus one at centre back without Wilson in midfield. 1 Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Oh Lord, Brian Wake
RossMcC1874 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Difficult to see past the obvious pumping but to use the old cliche its the championship anyone can beat anyone. A draw would be a good result we need to start well the last fixture at cappielow we were beaten within half an hour. Moffat or Garrity up top or maybe O'Halloran no idea if he is fit though.
dazza Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Thankfully we're not being forced to wear the abysmal away top. St Johnstone have released an equally abysmal red top for this game.
vikingTON Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Best team we could field given the absences, assuming the shape is logical as opposed to a back 5 or something. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. RossMcC1874 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Oh well was probably always coming but gutting we couldn't get a point. This genuinely will probably go down to the last game, getting nervy already thinking about the end of the season.
dunning1874 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Ultimately we've just been seen off by a better team having competed well for most of the game, but once again Murray's lack of subs is a massive cause of frustration. The game is getting more stretched with St Johnstone taking control of midfield, Gillespie's on a booking and MacPherson's invisible defensively, they're both breathing out their arses while Taylor and Crawford are getting splinters in theirs. Subs are being made too late and we're not making enough of them. Could even argue one of the two subs he did make made it worse, because the change to a back three to drop Wilson back left even more space, then the second comes from an unchallenged waltz through the middle of the park. Being seen off by a better team after a decent performance doesn't mean Murray didn't also get it wrong and he really needs to stop cutting his nose off to spite his face with not using his subs. Cat10 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Wasn’t the worst performance if being honest but the lack of strikers is a concern.
DaftTon74 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) For 60 minutes there we competed well, and if we had went on to lose 1 nil I’d have said fair enough, beat of a better side with a lot more resources and quality off the bench. Ended up leaving fizzing though after a disgraceful 2nd goal to lose. Edited March 7 by DaftTon74
GiGi Posted March 7 Posted March 7 The 2nd goal conceded was that of a knackered team. Delaney especially looked burst after having to pass Shaw in both directions all day. 2 Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'
DumfriesTon Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) Johnston is such a downgrade on Storer. Thought he could have done much better for the 1st and his kicking is terrible. Today wasn’t really the issue. The two previous defeats were. Taking 0/6 has got us in proper bother when we were starting to look up. I really hope we can scrape 3 more wins which I think will probably do it and end the season, get rid of half of the shite and start again. Edited March 7 by DumfriesTon

Would be better giving a youth player a game than Shaw. Garrity naturally drifted out wide but had to a lot of the times and probably put in more crosses from there than out actual left winger. 1 3
Ferguson Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I don’t know if it’s quite in the “expected to save” category but I do think Storer saves the first goal. Thought everyone put in a decent shift til they ran out of steam, except Shaw. Made some decent chances that we really need to be taking if we’ve any hope of lifting ourselves out of this mess. I don’t think we’re as bad as the teams that are currently below us so I won’t panic yet, but we need to start finding ways to get points on the board quickly. 1

The absolute double standards on display here in assessing Shaw and Garrity's performances is risible. Half the crosses from Garrity were shanked out of play FFS, yet for some curious reason the latest dauphin of GMFC's internal talent factory earns a free pass. Both were equally piss poor today. 1 The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. The keeper leaves a yard too many to his left for the first goal. From the Sinclair Street end, it was almost goading McAlear into trying a shot. The keeper wasn't up to the challenge set. Other than that he had a good game, and given the circumstances of finding another player we've done well. The league position will look worse before it gets better, but that's purely a function of our ludicrously distorted fixture list. March (final quarter) has us playing the top two at home then Ayr/Arbroath, as the teams beneath us will inevitably have more winnable matches. Queen's Park capitalising on their Airdrie at home chance today is a case in point, but they don't get that fixture back in April when needed. Tubes Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Why has there been absolutely no mention of Storer by the club, just completely vanished back down the road and nothing said.
Tubes Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Worried at the top end of the pitch going into this run in. Long balls and crosses into the box to absolutely nobody who can do anything with it anyway. How we haven’t went and got someone in on an emergency loan up front was surprising, knowing Main is out for ?3 games and Brophy is injured. The timing of substitutions is definitely an issue, but there’s an argument who’s there to come on and improve things. For me, Taylor and Crawford definitely should be involved. Centre halves done well, Wilson, and Gillespie in spells. 1

Centre halves done well, Wilson, and Gillespie in spells. For Taylor and/or Crawford not to come on after the first goal today was very disappointing. If there's some inherent issue why they aren't playing then it should be communicated, but asking a tired Moffat to play up front with Garrity still somehow playing out wide made the outcome a foregone conclusion. We had relatively few resources available today but decisions in the final 15 minutes made it worse.
