SpoonTon Posted January 17 Posted January 17 12 goals conceded in our last 3 away matches (so far) and 2 against both Peterhead and Stirling before that. Only conceded 8 goals in Imrie's last 9 away games. I'm not going to question the problem with quality, it was evident at home against St Johnstone as well, but that's a pretty major shift.
Brian Skelton Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Sooner Murray can bin that shower of shite who actually think they are better than they are the better. Big B
dunning1874 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Longridge has achieved a "Darren Cole v Hamilton" level of being so terrible that he should obviously not be allowed to play professional football again today. Repay the wages you've taken for the last six months as compensation for what you've just done then fuck off. port-ton Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Massive couple of weeks trying to get a few quality players in, and hopefully ship another couple out. Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

FTFY 2 The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
ConTon74 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Where do we actually go from here genuinely. Everything about the club is just stinking, crap squad full of sand dancing wingers who wouldn’t get a game at junior level (being generous). Forwards that can’t convert from 12 yards, defensively all over the place & at set pieces. Out every cup competition & now with other teams in the league starting to pick up form it’s looking very very bleak. 1
mcintyre_gmfc Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Murray’s got his work cut out getting a tune out of this mob. Absolutely hopeless.

Many thanks. I'll see what I can find. This is only our 2nd SC defeat to Stenny. Both came with them a league below us, albeit in 1933 there only were two league. Fresh stain on the floor when I moved in. He may have checked out short of a useful amount of blood.
SpoonTon Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I was concerned when I saw the lineup, because it looked a bit powderpuff. First 15 minutes it looked fine, O'Halloran had a very early chance and we looked like we could get behind them. We created chances sporadically after that, enough to win the match if we could have defended, but we conceded nearly every time Stenny got the ball into the box. If you're playing two wingers, a smaller striker, and selecting Lyall in midfield then you're going to lack height at set pieces. Blues and Gillespie aren't big guys either.
dunning1874 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 It doesn't matter that it's his first game in charge, overseeing one of the worst results in the club's history in that fashion means that massive questions need to be asked of Murray. It's a squad he's inherited, but any team conceding three goals from set-pieces in one game can't be anyone's fault but the coaching staffs' for atrocious organisation. Persisting with sand-dancing wingers in the second half when the game was still alive at 2-0 and we obviously needed to flood the middle of the park to win second balls, actively choosing to continue surrendering it, is simply gross incompetence regardless of how much time you've had with a squad. 1 Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Oh Lord, Brian Wake

If his big answer at 2-0 down at half time today is to swap Moffat (SD) for Garrity (SD) then he's part of the problem though. I don't care how long you've been in the job: a competent manager grasps what works and what won't, both on the training ground and in game conditions. Continuing with the same dung that was doing nothing under the temp management is on him - we could have reverted to the shape that played at Ross County instead. I am still mystified as to why none of Imrie, the caretakers or now Murray have grasped at the only demonstration of a competent first team setup in nearly 3 fucking months, and just run with that for a change. 1 The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. SpoonTon Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Coaching, organisation, and personnel selection has to come into it. We only conceded more than one goal in 2 of Imrie's last 13 matches (14 goals in total). We've conceded 19 goals in the 8 matches since he left. There were always signs that this squad could struggle at the back, and we've been awful in the final third all season, but it doesn't need to be this bad. That was pathetic today. It doesn't seem like Murray has seen the weaknesses that are there. 1
so72 Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 Lineup looked dreadful, result was beyond laughable. Wouldn't be surprised if we were bottom of the league by the end of February. Huge game on 31st Jan at home vs County. Murray had 2 weeks with this team and just turned out our worst result of the season* - he could very well learn from that and I'll be holding onto that hope for now. **for many seasons.

Many thanks. Well, the tl;dr version is that today's result is the worst since the war, unless losing to a side who are two tiers below us or non-league is considered worse. The Scottish Cup shame games are - 1949 Clyde (N) 0-2 (this was a replay which was moved to Ibrox) 1970 East Fife (a) 0-1 1993 Arbroath (a) 0-3 1996 Montrose (a) 2-3 (replay played the day after the original tie. Wylie was sent off) 2001 Peterhead (a) 1-4 (two leagues below us) 2008 Peterhead (a) 1-2 2014 Spartans (a) 1-2 (our only cup defeat to a non-league side) 2019 East Fife (a) 1-2 Four fecking nil - Murray has really got his work cut out with this squad. Sounded drained on the radio there. 1 Fresh stain on the floor when I moved in. He may have checked out short of a useful amount of blood.

It's in the conversation for the worst for decades. There's the argument for Hamilton due to the margin, Peterhead 4-1 which has the mitigating circumstance (thanks to Neil Lennon for the phrase) of administration, 3-0 v Arbroath in 92/93. An unmitigated disaster. Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Oh Lord, Brian Wake
Hej Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) I think what's quite alarming is the collapse in our defence. Early season I remember commenting that I think we'd be similar season to last, being relatively tight at the back but lacking in goals at the other end. Well that's out the window now. 7 conceded in the last 120 odd minutes of play, THIRTEEN in the last 4 games. I thought our defending against Patrick was pathetic and seriously lacking in aggression and communication in the box, and to hear we conceded 3 from set-pieces is a continuation of that. Very concerning. Edited January 17 by Hej 1
