Had a chat the other day with some fellow coffin dodgers, when the subject of first football heroes came up. I had to dig really deep into my foggy memory, and I finally came up with Donny Gillies from the early 1970s, so I'd be about 10. I can't really remember much about him, to be honest, other than he was a Teuchter from one of the Inverness clubs (Clachnacudden?), and he was a striker. I also seem to remember he had a bit of a cocky swagger about him, but I could be mixing him up with someone else. Think he was with us for maybe two or three seasons before moving south to Bristol City, if I correctly recall. I was gutted when he left, but I'm over it now. Took a while though.

Who was your first Morton hero when you were a kid?

Warren Hawke for me. Similar age to yourself in your post, around 10, when he signed, and I moved into the area and went to my first game. Despite Derek Lilley getting through 2 goals that day in a 2-2 draw with Dundee, I just took to Warren straight away.

I was 7. Andy Ritchie. Really obvious, but I even asked my Mum if I could have a perm when I was 9.

Mine was Peter Weatherspoon. I remember first seeing him play and despite him playing right back he was scoring like 2-3 goals a game most of them screamers.

Everything just looked easy for him long range goals, free kicks he had it all.

I remember then trying to recreate those goals up the park 30 yard screamers, some good times and good memories.

My first full season was 1988/89 making me 6 when I started going to games. My hero at the time was Tommy Turner. Absolutely loved him as a player.

Looking back over the last few years Michael Tidser was probably one of my all time favourites and more recently Robbie Muirhead too.

Rajamaki from my first game as a five year old.

When I was a wee bit older, Warren Hawke. Sadly ruined now.

I'm going back to the very late 50's, possibly very early 60's and a goalkeeper called Johnny Kay(e).

Also, in the very early 60's we had a neighbour called Charlie Cunningham who played, iirc, left- half.

I started going in the mid-late 80s So it’s got to be Rowan Alexander for me. Ro Ro Super-Ro.  I remember for a season (maybe around 88-89) him doing a somersault goal celebration was on the Scotsport opening credits

Born in ‘96 my 1st Morton hero was Marco Maisano. Closely followed by Super Alex Williams

Davies Hayes in the 70s. I was born in 64 & in the 70's he played in a good side & was always getting stuck in, not the classiest at times but effective, says a lot that I preferred him to Holmes, Rtchie or the defenders we were punting to various London clubs at the time.

Started going in the mid-90s - Rajamäki was the first. He just seemed so cool with the long hair and how he played the game.

Latterly, for one reason or another, I absolutely loved Paul MacDonald in his season here.

Andy Ritchie. I was 6 when I started going (the Aberdeen cup replay).

Fresh stain on the floor when I moved in. He may have checked out short of a useful amount of blood.
