RossMcC1874 Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 After a eventful week to say the least its nice to focus on football. No idea what the lineup will look like will Davies ring the changes or will it be a similar looking lineup, Davies also said we have two of the u18 players in the squad be intresting if they get game time Anyway lets hope for a positive result.
BishopBrennan Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 A win would be most welcome to put the week's turmoil behind us. Absolutely no idea how we will line up, but we should be coming back down the road with our name in the pot for the next round. You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!
SpoonTon Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 Davies spoke about injuries, but how many injuries do we have that we're guaranteeing two 16 year olds a place on the bench? I wondered if there was some sort of rule about having youth players in the squad for the Scottish Cup but I can't find anything which states that to be the case.

No, there used to be a rule about having two outfield under 21s but that was scrapped years ago. Only requirement now is that you have to designate your goalkeeper on the bench, and if you have no backup goalkeeper to name you lose a sub. This rule of course proved that David Hopkin was telling lies in 20/21 about the club "not being able to afford a second choice goalkeeper" when he'd built a squad with about 10 wingers, as when it came to the Scottish Cup we curiously managed to name Chris Wylie on the bench in every round. 1 Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Oh Lord, Brian Wake

I found that very interesting considering Laird’s earlier comments about wanting to get the average age of the squad down. Is it coincidence that the kids start getting a look in once the first-team manager is away?

I will admit when I was listening to Davies last night I was wondering whether he thought we buttoned up the back. I'm not going to be delighted about 16 year olds being in the squad for the sake of it - but I will if they're actually good footballers who improve the squad (which seems highly unlikely). The pragmatism we've seen under Imrie serves us better than some ideology about giving youth a chance or playing football a certain way. Davies is suddenly going in on how great it is to have these kids in with the squad - either we have 7+ players out injured or he's pushing an ideology and thinking we won't notice the timing of that. 1
Mr.Blue Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 A few players missing. Blues, Shug, Crawford, Lyall, Taylor, Brophy, McKay. That's some list! There's a storm on the horizon And for that I can't see the sun For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement For the ice cream van to come

The starting XI looks like it should have enough for today, but definitely have to hope that injured list shrinks significantly in short order.
dunning1874 Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 I'm guessing Lyall can't play in the cup under the terms of his loan, but even if he's back in for league games that injury list is bad. That could be a continuation of the 4-3-1-2 type set up we've seen lately with Garrity taking Shaw's place behind Moffat and Adeloye, or could be a switch back to 4-3-3. Ballantyne back in is good news. Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Oh Lord, Brian Wake
Jamie_M Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 Niall McGinn starts for Peterhead, Craig McGuffie on the bench. Kieran Shanks also starts who we supposedpy tried to sign earlier thos season.
CM48 Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 Bloody hell. If ever there was a scenario to sum up the week…
GiGi Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 At least we might not need to wait long to see that we need to be interviewing potential managers asap. Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'

True, but they'll need to be content in not having an assistant, because we invented the position of Technical Head Coach (which is maybe neither and both a director of football and assistant manager). I'm all seriousness, I really hope we can pull through one way or another here. Cause it's a disaster if we don't.

Yeah we're a shame game away from the whole season going to shit at the minute. I worry that a loss today spirals the negative atmosphere about the place to the point we tumble out of the league with absolutely no infrastructure to show for any of the money spent by Brian Bonar this season. We've gone about things so wrong. 2 Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'
SpoonTon Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 I love the Scottish Cup. Getting knocked out 2-1 against Peterhead in November by a last minute goal is one of my least favourite things ever (17 years ago today). I don't think I could stand it happening again. 1
