CM48 Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 Well that’s nearly a week of “internal discussions”. Are we looking for a new manager or does “interim”= Davies until the end of the season? Too soon to be asking?

Unless our results take a catastrophic turn and he is emptied. I do wonder how much he wants it. He hasn't automatically taken it till the end of the season or anything, and he hasn't thrown himself fully into the action (he wasn't on the touchline on Saturday, as far as I know). It could be that that we want to convince him - when he first came in there was talk of the number of hurdles we had to get over to get the move over the line. Maybe he would want certain conditions to take the job full time. In many ways it looks like the simplest solution right now - but it's maybe not as simple as it looks.
Hoofballer Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 John Laird perhaps not convinced what he should “advise” the Club to do yet …….. Directors awaiting his “advice” …..
Jamie_M Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 (edited) Davies in charge till at least the Airdrie game. Will sit in the stand as usual, except on Friday, as Gary Miller was sent off at the weekend. "Since the departure of Dougie Imrie, the club has received dozens of notes of interest in the managerial position. While we appreciate the strong level of interest, we remain committed to taking the appropriate time with this process, particularly given the quality of staff already in place. Billy will continue to oversee from the stands on match day but will be in the technical area for Friday’s game with Queen’s Park, due to Gary Miller being unavailable after his weekend red card. The current coaching structure will remain until at least the Airdrie game on 13th December, after which we will provide supporters with a further update." Edited December 2, 2025 by Jamie_M 1

TONofmemories Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 Looks like we're gonna kick the can down the road in the hope that we can get some wins and get to safety.. TIME FOR CHANGE!
DunTon Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 DOZENS of notes of interest?! I suppose we'll have a reputation now for keeping managers through tough patches, so could be seen as an attractive job? Surely we'll be able to find a manager in that lot that can do better than Davies from the stand. I think I'm misunderstanding this, but does "Billy Davies remains in his position as Technical Head Coach" imply that we don't have anyone in the role of "Interim Manager"? Who is handling recruitment at this point in time? I don't think we'll get any answers to these questions (and I don't think we really need them) but it is interesting to think about. Just hoping we can sneak a couple of "gritty" wins in the next couple of weeks before we go into panic mode.
Gordon Ritchie Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 For what it’s worth, when we were recruiting after Gus left, we received dozens of notes of interest. Unfortunately the majority of them were “I managed Morton to win the Champions League after 3 seasons in Football manager / fifa 23” or whatever the game at the time was called. I never worked out if these people were deluded or taking the p***. 2

Literally every managerial vacancy even at the biggest basket cases of clubs will instantly attract dozens of interested parties from football manager addicts right up to one cap Brazilian Internationalists. They have already stated previously 'Technical Head Coach Billy Davies will now assume interim charge of the first team'. Don't disagree they are being ambiguous with their terminology though because you could just as easily read the latest sratement aa Gary Miller's interim and Billy is supervising him. 1
Roger McQueen Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 What is the deal with Davies sitting in the stand? Is he not wanting to be seen as an Assistant Manager/Interim Manager? Does he feel he is too good? Feel it will damage his aspirations of managing his team in Govan? It feels very much like he has assumed the role of Director of Football which is not needed at this level.

Assume he'll be in constant contact with those on the bench. It's not a big deal. 1 hour ago, Gordon Ritchie said: For what it’s worth, when we were recruiting after Gus left, we received dozens of notes of interest. SpoonTon Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 "...particularly given the quality of staff already in place." Are we hoping for some decent results to give Gary Miller the job under Davies' supervision? Is that what the statement suggests?

Miller gets it and what about youth? Something off at Morton. There needs to be more clarity and I think there is maybe the need for an MCT meeting with members early 2026.

Anyway, Record running with the Davies doesn't want it story.

A few days ago he was "born ready" to be a manager. I think he wants to be a manager again but he clearly views Morton as a risk to his "reputation" but also an easy pay day at moment. Should we appoint external, as they not allowed an Assistant and the stand sitter is there or will there be budget for an assistant or will he swing out of Cappielow to allow a new management team ?? 5 minutes ago, Hands of Cowan said: Neil McCann with Barry Fairygusset as Asst Wouldn't say to to McCann TBH. I'd most likely go for Iain Murray though.
SpoonTon Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 (edited) It seemed to be a difficult process to convince Davies to take the job he's in. It does feel like we would have liked him to have taken the job but couldn't offer him the conditions he would have wanted (or it's just not a job he wants to take at all). As I've said before, it does give us a slightly awkward (or complicated) situation where anyone taking the job has to be happy working alongside an experienced Technical Head Coach (and presumably therefore no traditional assistant). You can see why the status quo, or something similar, might be an attractive option for the club. Edited December 2, 2025 by SpoonTon
RossMcC1874 Posted December 2, 2025 Author Posted December 2, 2025 I can't see Davies taking it full time, but if we go on a really good run and end up possibly improving under him then who knows. I never liked the idea of him being in charge. When he came in I couldn't help feel it may also be a view to possibly getting back into management at some point which has been the case albeit a lot sooner than anticipated.
