Just seen in the daily record that apparently Imrie is close to agree a deal to becoming the new Raith Rovers boss!

This has came from nowhere not sure how much truth there is but the story is just breaking now.

I think the regular applications to move sideways is at best unhelpful to Morton at this point. If Imrie wants away he should go. Strange that he does it under his biggest budget but this can't go on.

I worry that we hand the job to Davies until the end of the season and he makes a hash of things.

Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'

Permission to speak when they're the ones who've approached us rather than Imrie applying and him actually wanting to go are different things, as we saw with Partick in the summer, but still concerning.

He's off. Sidewards move to a club who will have a similar budget to ours this season. Probably been offered more money.

I don't think this is a bad thing for us. He took us as far as he could. Hopefully get someone in who can move us forward. Not Kris Doolan!

Would there be some form of compensation involved. If Imrie wants it he’ll be off. For the record, I think regardless he’d have been away at the end of the season anyway.

Not ideal timing before our 11 match unbeaten run before going on to not win in 12.

We can hope and dream someone would come in to replace him *Cough Ian Murray* but the reality is we will have Billy Davies and head of youth at the wheel for our fizzled out finish to 8th in the league, where we will have to build from the start again with currently 2 players under contract for next season.

He’s surely not desperate to be their 4th manager in 16 months …. Hardly inspires as a long term gig ?

The lazy appointment of Davies to replace is worrying as well ….

You are aware Imrie was given a top 4 budget this season?

Where has anyone said the budget was top four?

If Imrie does leave then good luck to him. Morton have been good for him and Imrie has been good for Morton.

no issues with him wanting to take next step in his career.

I’ll play along. Which 2 of St Johnstone, Partick, Ayr, Dunfermline, Raith and Ross County do you wrongly believe have a smaller budget than us this season?

Given that you’ve described Raith’s budget as “similar” to ours above, can I rule them out as an answer?

This feels as good a point to part ways with Imrie as any to me.

The main target of mid-table safety has been achieved, and this season looks like turning out much the same. That's decent enough for us in the grand scheme of things, but the tendency to cling on to what you have rarely works out in football.

We might appoint a complete dud next, or someone with a lesser work ethic, but I think it's fair to say that the summer transfer window was Imrie's least successful. That can't continue, otherwise we'll end up in the same position as Ayr, Raith, Dunfermline and Partick: wasting a fortune on a bloated mess of a squad while achieving nothing.

A squad of 24 players. Pretty much 2 players for each position apart from left back. Lairds interview confirming Brian Bonar had given £250k in addition to what was agreed for the football budget. It's clear what sort of budget we have this season and what the expectations are.

Last year’s transfer window was just as bad if not worse. Then there was the Alan Power summer the year before that.

His patchy recruitment is what has held us and him back from really kicking on.

I will be sad to see him go though, his coaching - the ability to get results out of whatever squad he has in front of him - is up there with anyone in Scotland so we are talking a big step into the unknown if this happens.

I’ll always be thankful to him for taking the club by the scruff of the neck and not accepting we’re just wee Morton and should be happy just to be here. I was proud to have him lead the club and will be happy to have him back in future.

Ross County, St Johnstone and Dunfermline will have larger . Partick reduced their budget this season and it was reported that Ayr did as well.

We have been given a budget to compete for 4th place.
