CM48 Posted November 8, 2025 Posted November 8, 2025 We should have had a couple more today and looked a bit more like a classic “Imrie” team. A great goal though and a clean sheet so got to be happy with that, especially with the fight and spirit shown through the late stages of the game (7 mins ref? FFS). Thought Longridge was excellent in his play and leadership as Arbroath had some decent pressure at times. McKay looked good when he came on, if only he could have finished that late chance after running the full length of the pitch… Good reaction from the fans staying to applaud Dougie and the team too. Still lots to improve on and a tough few weeks coming up, but feeling way better than I did this time 2 weeks ago.

He should have been rolling it across the goal to Shaw (could have been someone else) who would have had an empty goal to aim at. Everything worked out OK in the end but if we'd lost a goal after that incident, we'd all be on moaning about it. But I agree he looked good and seems to have great pace.

Should have enforced the rules and made them wear our away kit Why are these bumpkin farmers allowed to produce two clearly incompatible kits, while everyone from Warren 'Iron Man' Hawke onwards insists that we can't have Parma hoops because of the terrible clash with... all the other yellow and blue teams in the SPFL? Launch the true kit for 26/27 and shove this in the face of 'the beaks', if they have the brass neck to complain. That's two good balls he's put into the box this half. Cracking finish from Moore there. While I agree that Moffat plays much better with the ability to roam and switch positions, that role would also suit Garrity, and even Shaw (who could swap for Adeloye as the 'focal point' too, if needed). What does not suit any of them - and the team as a whole - is playing any two of them out wide. The Firhill shape and the one today are the way forward - there are weaknesses that opponents might exploit, but just copying the same shape as most of our direct competitors with worse options was a hopeless dead end. We could get a chasing at Dingwall next week playing in today's shape - but we could just as easily outplay them and get all 3 points. The win today was deserved as we had the better chances and should have finished the game off with Adeloye's chance, then the shot cleared off the line. I'm not going to criticise McKay for not passing up on a goal of the decade contender - which could be his only, Lewis Hawke level, cameo goal at Cappielow - to square it to any of our far from selfless forwards. One major concern for me today was Robertson, who looked really out of his depth both physically and technically. And if he's having a stinker with the ball, he needs to put in far more of a shift off the ball. That position is ideal for Blues though. Swapping Comrie for Ballantyne for the closing stages was a good move to add extra physicality when they piled their hammer-throwers on and forward to try and bludgeon in an equaliser. TRVMP Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 Goal at 1:39. I don't care if you're unmarked, that's a belter of a finish. Lovely cross as well. Just before that we'd given away a free far post header but they wasted it, I think we got away with it a bit there. Really nice save from Storer at 3:30. He's been so good for us. Good stop at the far post from the corner later too. Tomi did well to win the ball right after but he's snatching at chances, painful to watch really. He's capable of much better composure than that. Wasn't at the game obviously but seeing McKay's effort, I don't think taking it himself was THAT bad. He was on the hoof. Actually wait I just watched it again, no, that's a disgrace. Should have won 4-1 or so. Morton

To be fair to McKay, he just sprinted the full length of the park and took a bit of a stumble when he got into the box - I was right behind him and he had a lot of the goal to aim for so getting the shot away wasn't a terrible decision but it was a poor finish. Also not sure about their penalty claim now. Thought it was one at the time but their player seems to just have dived in and didn't get touched.

Can't blame McKay for taking the shot after the effort he's put in to get there. I was a tad worried about the penalty incident at the time but the Arbroath boy has went for a diving header and thrown himself at the ball and then tried to win a pen. A no for me. One of the few decisions the dickhead ref got right. There's a storm on the horizon And for that I can't see the sun For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement For the ice cream van to come

He’s only ran the length of the pitch because of his refusal to pass the ball. He could’ve played in Garrity three times and we’d have won the game 2-0. It was terrible decision making that meant he was still in possession of the ball at that point and more terrible decision making to shoot rather than pass, having got that far.
Hands of Cowan Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 Tomi put in more of a shift too. Tracked back to help out in midfield at times and looks like his fitness is improving too. Lasted 85 minutes before the tank was empty.

Anyone who has played football at any level will understand why he didn't pass the ball. It wasn't a terrible decision at all. Also who's to say if he passes to Garrity in our half then he doesn't go on and do the same? The second 'chance' to play him in Garrity had ran offside and the third he's got every right to take the shot. Ifs, buts and maybes but give the boy a break for fuck sake. Except for everyone whose opinion clearly differs from yours, most of whom will have played football at some level, including me, everyone I was with at the game, everyone I’ve spoken to since and the majority of people who have commented on the match online. So that’s just untrue. That scenario should have resulted in a goal and it didn’t. You might just be extremely forgiving, or are defending McKay to the hilt for some other reason, but I’ve no doubt our coaching team and senior players will be having a word to correct this so it doesn’t cost us in the future.

Agree with you. He gets a bit of slack cos he’s a young player trying to make an impression but ultimately his decision making has to be better. Reminded me a little of Ben Gannon-Doak’s contributions in the last couple of Scotland games. Exciting but infuriating at the same time.

What part is untrue? Whether you agree or not I think most folk although they think it was the wrong decision will see why McKay didn't pass. I'm not extremely forgiving nor do I have any other reasons apart from being realistic. I know I'm in the minority which is fine.
