AyrshireTon Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Lots of interest for this I see. Garrity starting this week. McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.
dunning1874 Posted September 20 Posted September 20 This is considerably less dire than last week, but so boring. No one in this team has any idea how they're going to score a goal and that's not an issue we've had before under Imrie. Only time we look remotely threatening is when Garrity gets room for a cross, but getting to the final third is rare. Adeloye has been dire, we'd look a lot better with another central midfielder taking his place. vikingTON Posted September 20 Posted September 20 We have no actual plan for how to score a goal. In that half we probably edged the overall contest. We are (as ever under Imrie, as a minimum) quite well organised, move the ball quite effectively, but... what's our strength or link up we plan to exploit to score? Are we crossing the ball for a header - or a low cross to follow into goal? Is it a through ball behind the defence? We'll get enough half chances from opposition mistakes to get a goal every other week, but we're not quite watertight enough to turn that into a win either. We're not objectively bad: it's just mediocre - and fucking boring - to an almost ludicrous degree. 1 The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. Gmfcrg Posted September 20 Posted September 20 How are we set up today? Is blues playing wide right in a narrow Jim Duffy esque 4-4-2 or have we shoehorned brophy (our biggest goal threat) out wide to accommodate adeloye?
dunning1874 Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Triple sub and Adeloye stays on, baffling. Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Oh Lord, Brian Wake
irnbru Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Good to see Crawford back. Only got a decent 20 mins from the stream towards the end - thought Garrity at least tried to make something happen from out wide so hopefully them two make a difference. From the other bits I managed to see, Adeloye just stood about and anything he did win was aimless.
Mr.Blue Posted September 20 Posted September 20 A point is good in isolation but overall not good enough. Need to start winning There's a storm on the horizon And for that I can't see the sun For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement For the ice cream van to come
GiGi Posted September 20 Posted September 20 We are an utterly boring team. 2 Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'
Roger McQueen Posted September 20 Posted September 20 We have no creative spark and the prospect of scoring a goal looks lost on the team. Tomi is playing the JET role of stand standing about. I can't work out if he's not interested, not fit or just looking for a few months pay as he has shown prior to Morton there is a player there.

HamCam Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Further evidence the increased budget has only bought quantity not quality in the squad. We remain a hard watch and a hard team to like.

Adeloye is as interested as a number 9 as Brophy, or Stuparevic last season too. There's not much they can do with non-existent service. I'm not president of a Tomi Adeloye fan club, but there are clear double standards within the fanbase when assessing his performances right now. Brophy was less involved in the first hour of today's game. 1 hour ago, irnbru said: Quantity has killed us in recent seasons. I found the previous, hard working and hard pressing underdog sides under Imrie quite likable. The home games were usually hard fought - we took a lot of points at Cappielow - and we gave a lot of teams a going over. There's nothing bad, but also nothing to really like about this current Dalrada-funded, 'ambishun' first team. It's the equivalent of Ayr or Raith's horribly bloated squads, only produced by Lidl own brand's range. DumfriesTon Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Adeloye was no worse than Brophy. Both had quiet games but that comes from those behind them who, outside Garrity for 20 minutes at the end, didn’t have any sort of creativity. I’m hopeful that Crawford coming back in should help with that. Regardless, it should be either of Brophy and Adeloye up front, not both. Not a fan of Moffat but thought he did well today and would be interested to see him playing off one of the strikers. When he played upfront last year, those were his best games. McPherson looked like he’ll be a good player and a midfield of him, Wilson and Crawford should be pretty strong. Would have Ballantyne back in as well. Comrie is fine but Ballantyne gives a bit more going forward and is just as good as a defender, if not better. Not an overly bad point but getting a bit tedious now. 1
vikingTON Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Starting to see now why everyone at GMFC lost their rag at the spawny but disallowed goal against Raith, which stands to blemish an otherwise perfect league record. RossMcC1874 Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Few things to highlight from yesterday not that there was much. I felt Garrity looked positive on the ball and actually wanted to take people on still think his work rate and end product both need to improve but I was more hopefully seeing him than the other cast of wingers we have. Brophy and Adeloye don't work and it needs binned playing both of them it should be one or the other. Adeloye is lazy still looks like he is carrying weight and just offers nothing. Albeit the service from the wingers and midfield is non-existent at times but a bit of effort isn't something that should have to be asked of a player it's the bare minimum. Brophy hasn't covered himself in glory either and wasn't great but he still looks more like to do something and his work rate is slightly better than Adeloye.
dunning1874 Posted September 21 Posted September 21 You can't discount the possibility that he's just saying one thing in public to protect the players while saying another behind closed doors, which is fine and would make this point academic, but somewhat concerned by Imrie saying we were excellent in the first half and could have been 2 or 3 up when in reality we were utterly toothless and rarely looked like scoring. The message to the players should be that collectively they simply haven't been good enough and need to improve to start winning games; if they're being allowed to delude themselves into thinking they're playing well and it's only luck that's keeping them from winning, it's more difficult to see that improvement coming any time soon.
