Jamie Lindsay? He was very good with us, not sure where he is now but I thought he would play a fairly good level.

Released by Bristol Rovers this summer.

Bring him home.

Him and Andy Murdoch were a cracking midfield pair. Alarm bells rang when the snake allowed Murdoch to leave.

He's maybe another one that could be thought of as an underachiever.

I have a memory of Ferguson scoring in the 6-2 defeat at Inverness which signalled the end of Billy Stark's reign as manager

Ferguson was gone by then.  We had dumped him by the October.

In which case my mind is playing tricks on me.

Ferguson was done by the time we got him, sadly. Millen looked similar then went on to play for about another ten year!

Despite being our top scorer for two(?) consecutive seasons, I'd maybe also consider adding Robbie Muirhead to the list. Often very frustrating and sometimes there were question marks about his level of commitment (unfairly, IMO), but he had more natural ability than pretty much every player a Championship level. Will be interesting to see how he performs next season in the Premiership.

How far back are we going here?

Jorn Sorensen?

A bit harsh, maybe. He was afterall a Danish international.

IIRC, he also scored the quickest goal, at that time, when he moved to Ibrox.

I'd say it's very harsh to include Lindsay. A season in the Scottish Premiership and a couple of seasons in the English Championship isn't to be sniffed at.

You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!

Here's my XI as things stand:

Weatherson Shimmin Medou-Otye X

X Tidser McLaren

Quitongo Thomas Williams

Okay yes, I'm cheating a bit by sticking Weatherson at right back, but it's my ball so it's my rules.

A player who has just popped into my mind - Andy McLaren. His background and experiences are laid bare in his autobiography which I read years ago, he should have been nowhere near Morton. He's also someone who Jim McInally fucked over too.

Kevin twaddle? I know he moved about a lot to cover his gambling debts with signing on fees meaning he followed the money a lot rather than best move for his career.

Played for Scotland but definitely could have had a better career.

Weatherson was an overachiever at right back. Your thread is a sham.

Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'

It depends how you define underachiever. Archie Campbell was an underachiever in his own way. He was never particularly technically gifted, and outside of an incredible spell of form he wasn't exactly brilliant. But he bombed so spectacularly after leaving us I thought he was worth a mention.

In a very, very different way, Ross Forbes underachieved in his career in relation to his undeniable ability. He was still in his 20s when he left us.

Tam O'Ware is surely another for this category.

Only in his own head, believing his own hype.

That’s a good shout. He also says in that book that it was a toss up between him and Didier Agathe to sign for Celtic. No idea how true that is though.

Someone mentioned Paul McGowan earlier and I think that's a good call. He did go on to have a good appearance record in the top flight but when he first broke through with us he was absolutely dominant in the third tier and then looked great in the second as well, I think he could have kicked on significantly more than he did rather than fannying about at Dundee and Ross County he could have been at a Hearts or Hibs.
