Aye, so much for the moon boot for Murdoch.

As for Albinson - budget.

I can't believe the season is back already, frankly. Need to get rid of these early cup games or play them midweek or something. Players hardly get time off, there's hardly a pre-season.

I reckon we'll win 2-1.

They've had plenty of time off. Finished end of April and didn't come back until the 2nd or 3rd week in June.

There's a storm on the horizon

And for that I can't see the sun

For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement

For the ice cream van to come

Wonder if Dougie isn't set on bringing Albinson in. He mentioned that the board had been very good with funds for players. If he wanted him surely he'd have signed him by now.

I had heard the opposite Re: budget so the Dougie quote did surprise me to be honest.

Heard Albinson costs twice what Mullen was on and there has been reservations about allocating that.

If that's the case then he can get right to fuck. No way would he deserve double what Mullen was on.

Understandable, if true. Twice the money for a downgrade would be a tough one to take.

Dougie's quote on the budget felt like a strange one to mention in the way that he did.  Why not day that I'm the first interview of preseason - why now? It could be that what you heard was accurate but things have now changed.

That doesn't mean the budget isn't there. All that says is they aren't willing to pay too much on wages for an inferior GK.

That would be partly because Mullen was on peanuts (he was still working in a shoe shop part time in his first year here to top up his wages) and the going rate for keepers at Ayr and Hamilton being higher - same reason we never got a sniff at Fulton from Hamilton when Dougie was chasing him for ages.

My point was I had heard it was significantly cut.

Dougie's quote yesterday explicitly said 'the board have found more money' so increased it recently.

A fair point. If we knew what Mullen was on pw (which we won't and rightly so) then it could put some perspective on the situation.

I knew Mullen was one of our low earners when he came in from clyde but thought that would have increased when he signed an extension.

Aye, don't know the numbers but the reservations on allocating a chunk more to a less than glamorous probable downgrade seems fair.

Hopefully the budget thing has been sorted. Next few signings will be telling.

Anyway, get in. Is it full time yet?

Yeah absolutely. Would like to think that Davies will be able to use his contacts to identify targets which are hopefully game changers but again depends on money we offer.
