RossMcC1874 Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 Thank God this whole saga is now over. Let's hope we have learned our lesson from whole mess and certain individuals realise that working together and actually talking to each other will make the club stronger. Hopefully we get some sort of squad update and maybe an update on the whole Millen situation rather than just constantly saying its an HR matter then can move forward start planning for next season. We still have imrie at the helm which is a massive plus we dont know how long that may last especially with what's happened but let's hope he manages to get the players we need and we can have another successful season.
TONofmemories Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 It'd be peak Morton either go win the league/playoffs or get outright relegated TIME FOR CHANGE!
GiGi Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 Still going to be running one of the smallest budgets in the league and not even started season planning until June, I'm going to guess relegation is odds on at the minute. Jim Duffy regularly didn't bother season planning until the agent called with a stack of ringers in mid-July. This is knicker-wetting pish. I think we can give the poor wee budget narrative a bye now that the scope of our sponsorship is now in the public domain. The only obstacle to building a competitive squad is that one year deals will - with any sense - have to be the uniform policy for first team players. But it not being a negotiating point should hopefully make our dealings quite straightforward, 'whit aboot ma wife and weans' special pleading being rightly disregarded. The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
HamCam Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 To be fair the return of traditional knicker-wetting is kind of comforting as it means we are beyond the Dalrada/MCT/GMFC/Laird debacle and back on message. Give it time and I will be rambling on about the lack of interesting friendlies.

No reason we can't compete for top 4 with the right recruitment.

Along with the increased sponsorship, not having passengers like Mcginn & Broadfoot on the wage bill at the start of the season will also free up some cash to hopefully be put to better use this time round The last few seasons have shown that spending more doesn’t guarantee success. See Raith, Ayr, Dunfermline, QP, Inverness etc etc etc, so yes claiming we are relegation favourites is hyperbolic pish. Hypothetically, if given the choice of 3rd lowest budget in the division with Imrie in charge vs 3rd highest with someone like Mark Wilson, Barry Robson or “broony” in charge I would pick having a good manager above the extra money.

The accepted proposal is about a £200k boost, subject to any future increases with MCT investment (quite unlikely to amount to much IMO, but it's there to aim for). Harkins said the budget was 750k in his TonTv interview in November ( well he actually said 375k is half of Dougies budget, but I did the math) The fact it's in that ballpark and set to improve is the main thing.
dunning1874 Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 Worth noting that it's likely not just a case of chucking an extra £200K onto the first team budget when we're seemingly running at a loss this season, funded by the profits of the previous two seasons, so even if every penny of that new money goes to the first team rather than eg infrastructure (it shouldn't) it's not going to be that big an increase when the plan is surely to break even. I don’t know the specific numbers involved, but I’m hoping that the fact we finished a couple of places higher than expected at the time & budgeted for might wipe out some or all of that forecasted loss
TopCat Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 The league cup group stage is the big target now. Get through that and secure a decent draw/have a run and we'll have the necessary January budget to challenge for 3rd/4th.

If the interim board wants to win the trust of both the fans and of the major sponsor, they should be taking that aim very seriously. I intend to increase my contribution. There's no way on the website to do so, nor is there any guide. I assume I just cancel my old PayPal (which I've now done) then sign up again using their new SheepApp (which I've not yet done as I want to be certain that's the preferred method with the lowest fees.) I mailed them earlier today to find out. Ideally they'd have a canned response ready to go in that instance, and it should be front and center on the site as well. We're unlikely to have an opportunity like this again anytime soon, to have contributions matched, so there needs to be a real charm offensive to make the most of it. Morton

The contributions are being matched from a very high starting point already, and I doubt that MCT are winning too many new subscribers after the past month. The Q and A answer was that they would just 'try to add more members', but we're frankly nearing saturation point in membership for a club with a core fanbase of under 2000 folk. Organising events to raise funds as briefly mentioned on Monday by Brian Bonar could be a goer. If it weren't for the spectacular nick of the past month then MCT could perhaps broach the issue of asking for increased subscription rates all round (because inflation has now taken about a quarter of the original value), but it would be very unwise to consider that until trust is restored. I did this a year or two ago and the answer was to take out a second subscription..

dunning1874 Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 I'm not at all against the idea of increasing my own contribution and appreciate that the sooner income increases the better - you'd rather have Dalrada investing an increased monthly sum from July rather than October - but I want to wait and see how the MCT board elections go and what proposals candidates have for the future of MCT before doing so. It was right that the meeting on Monday was directed away from recriminations over the timeline of the deal and what happened with the embargo to allow as many questions on the substance of the deal as possible. When it comes to a future MCT board, if anyone who was on it a month ago when everything kicked off is standing then it will be entirely appropriate to fully delve into the detail of what happened and those candidates' role in it, because the primary failing and cause of a collapse in trust in both MCT & GMFC has been a lack of transparency. Every candidate should show a commitment to improving that and if it's someone who's been part of the board already, demonstrate why they weren't part of the problem. I jumped the same hurdles when I increased my contribution a year ago. It should be easy - but it’s not. Multiple emails were involved, and the top & bottom is that I had to cancel my membership and start a new one with a higher contribution level. Around the same time, I emailed Dale with a list of ideas to increase membership, along with increasing contributions from existing members. #1 on the list was an ‘Increase Contribution’ button on the website. The button never appeared, and I never got a reply.
