It does at least seem like the remaining players we're looking for is an focal point of the attack and a physical presence in midfield. And if we're making two more signings then that's the two who could most help shape a team out of the squad.

Getting the right players in, who can actually make the difference, will be difficult though. And we need the approach to be far more effective and purposeful than this has been.

I mean, we've clearly not gelled yet and Imrie could very much argue for patience but I'm not seeing the signs of progress or potential as of yet.

It's wishful thinking to believe that two players will be enough to make this team genuinely competitive though. Against Ross County last season we had a system that worked and would clearly kick on when new players and squad options were added. I've seen absolutely nothing to build around today - that is a mediocre League One standard of team.

This. We’ve essentially signed a couple of guys that got ICT relegated, a boy that couldn’t get a game for a bang average Dunfermline side, a couple of unknowns from down South, an injury prone 19 year old who played a handful of games last season, and a half decent full back and midfielder from Airdrie.

Those signings, while persisting with Broadfoot, Blues and Gillespie, stinks of relegation. Dougie keeps banging the drum about a new brand of football but it clearly isn’t working so far, and with the new season only 2 weeks away he’ll need to get the finger out. If we go into the new campaign in this form we’re in for an upward battle from the off.

Concerning.

At least last season when we weren't playing well, we still had players capable of grabbing a goal. So far this season, I can't see where a goal will cone from.

I think we are going to see this season how much we relied on Muirhead pulling something out the bag in tight games in this division.

Another performance where we look like we could play all day and not score. Our set piece delivery all pre season has been poor as well to make matters worse.

Wilson was good and thought Mullen made some very good saves despite the second goal.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

Genuinely woeful stuff. St Johnstone are a very bad side and we've not even mustered a shot on target until a lame free kick at the end.

There's no positives to take in the way we're playing. We don't create any chances and we're as good as 2 goals down as soon as Broadfoot starts. Enthusiasm for the new season has totally gone already.

It's not nonsense. It's what happened. Of course the pass is on, Moffat had the positional advantage but wasn't sharp enough. But in case you've missed the tone of my posts, it's not a pass I'd want Broadfoot to make. It's too high risk for our level of ability in a match like that.

Broadfoot is one of a number of players who have made similar passes in similar situations. That's more than a player making an error of judgement - that's a consequence of instruction. We've just done it again as I write this.

“Moffat had the positional advantage”.

If I’m the defender behind him I’m begging Broadfoot to play that pass. For him to play it so poorly and go running off is a gift. If you think blame for that goal is 50/50 there are other sports available for you to watch.

In the first half they were also talking Reynolds up🥴

I dunno what they were smoking. Davies and Reynolds offered nothing again today. Couldn’t even score against a HL team at home during the week. Our attacking options are just as concerning as our piss weak defence. I’m not looking forward to our trip to Firhill in a fortnight. Worrying.

Kazaiah Sterling regen imo

Was thinking Donovan Simmonds myself but very much in the same 'gubbins' bucket. To try and implement a possession based philosophy with a guy who can't trap a ball, chooses dreadful passes and runs it out of play so often is utterly hopeless. I don't see what Davies is going to offer either.

A final (well not really) issue is that if you are going to try and play this garbage Johanssonball then Gillespie (an actual passer) needs to play in central midfield instead of Blues. But it gets nowhere near as much from Wilson as a more direct approach - as of the few strengths this team has, we need to play to those.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Jack Bearne has drawn 4 yellow cards from opposition players in about 40 minutes of competitive football.

He offers so much more than Reynolds on that side just by committing defenders.

Shame he's been told he can leave..

TIME FOR CHANGE!

If attracting yellow cards was exchangeable for goals and assists, perhaps. But the reality is that we're well overstocked with ineffective sand-dancers - see the bench today - and he is the one who by virtue of contract is the easiest/least embarrassing to punt.

I'd be up for Henk van Scheiking some of the other ringers too though.

I think Davis looks salvageable if we can get someone in that he can play off, or at least he gets some service from midfield.

What service would be suitable for Davies? He doesn't have pace, can't trap a ball reliably, and was bullied physically throughout. We hardly have Iniesta in midfield but I fail to see what pass would have made Davies any better than a 20/80 bet to get past the defence today or against Championship opposition too.

Completely agree. He doesn’t use his pace to his advantage as well, with his pace you’d expect him to be making runs behind often, but he’s always looking for the ball to feet when he gets physically bullied as you say. I hope it’s just fitness, but I’m not holding out hope of him turning out to be good.
