2024/25 Squad and Transfers

I'm sure Dougie will be working hard to find a replacement for George Oakley and I wonder if Bobby Wales the young Kilmarnock striker is on his radar as a possible loanee. He had a good spell with Alloa last season and although he didn't score in his first dozen games he then went on to score 12 in his final 15 games and was voted Alloa POTY. Killie seem to have a few strikers ahead of him and McInnes will be looking for the lad to get games a level up. Dougie might think he's just a bit too young (19 later this month) but he certainly looks a very good prospect.

Has it been confirmed that Oakley is offski and if so, where to? I can't find anything on the Ayr Utd site saying that he has signed for them.

I agree with looking at Wales, however I believe there was interest from Seria A for him! The recent craze for Scottish boys in Italy is brilliant but absolutely hilarious to think there's a Fiorentina scout at the Indodrill Stadium.

Just seen the list of released players from livi:

Bruce Anderson - Kilmarnock

Morgan Boyes

Michael Devlin

Kurtis Guthrie

Jack Hamilton

Jason Holt

Sean Kelly (still in talks over an extension)

Calan Ledingham

Daniel Mackay - Hibernian (end of loan)

Joel Nouble

Ayo Obileye

James Penrice - Heart of Midlothian

Andrew Shinnie

Kieran Wright - Rangers (end of loan

Boyes, Devlin and Obileye all could do a job in the championship.

Unsure about the boy Guthrie or if Jason Holt is getting on a bit?

There's a storm on the horizon

And for that I can't see the sun

For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement

Was Nouble not a hot property not that long ago? Not sure his position but the name rings a bell.

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."

I'm sure Jason Holt had a relegation release clause, so I'd assume he'd not be available to us. Nouble looks the most likely to end up at Morton from that list I'd say, couple of really good seasons before a bit of a disaster last year, had heard he ended up getting booed off towards the end of the season. Proper Dougie signing.

Boyes could also be a good signing for us, decent left-sided centre half that can cover at left back.

Not sure what people are smoking around here to think that we would be able to sign players like Nouble, Devlin and Obileye these are guys who have played multiple times in the premiership in what world could we afford or even if they want to come to cappielow.

The others I'd agree with but I wouldn't put Nouble in that category myself. Might well be financially slightly out of reach, who knows, but for context he's just finished the season as a striker with 1 league goal in 32 games for that Livingston team while being booed by his own fans for how shite he was:

His stock was once relatively high after a decent few months in the top flight about a year and a half ago, but I don't get why it's such a ridiculous shout now?

So far we've got 11 players who have either left or haven't signed up for next season (you can just about put together a decent starting 11 out of them). We've got Reynolds and Davies joining. However many more we sign, we've got a long way to go in putting together the squad. A problem with some of the names above is that they would probably be August/September signings if we could get them, and we're going to have to sign up another 5 or 6 at least before then. I expect some more left-field signings in the next few weeks.

Also, has the Morton Twitter/X page disappeared?

He's not a striker. He's a forward, most commonly operating as a winger. He's never been prolific.

If you shared the full article that you snipped above from December, you would see that he was booed having not even been playing as a forward but rather having played a series of games as a wing back.

He was also in the midst of transfer speculation. Martindale had been hawking him for a transfer in every interview for about a year and he was expected to leave in January with 2 Premiership and 2 Engliah League 1 clubs interested.

The booing was more to do with questioning attitude/being up for a relegation fight than it was ability.

Whilst Martindale's dreams of £1m for him were pie in the sky, him leaving was not because Livi released him to sink down to Morton. He was running down his contract, leaving anyway (see also Obileye) for a move at worst to another Premiership team or he'll be back down south.

While I agree with the general point and most of that list are leaving Livingston by their own choice to look for other Premiership clubs or moving outside Scotland, Devlin doesn't come into that category. He was a great player at his best but he's absolutely done through injury and was a bombscare all season. He's a bullet to be dodged for Championship clubs this summer, particularly for us when we already have one old centre back signed up and are supposedly avoiding injury prone players.

Has it been confirmed if Strapp has officially rejected a contract offer? I haven’t seen anything other than the Tele article a couple weeks ago.

Did he not publicly state on social media that it was a shite offer, or words to that effect? If so, I think we can take it as read he rejected it.

Will be interesting how the club tries to spin that one. All we hear from the club is how they want to be more in the community and this ‘heartbeat of inverclyde’ tag line yet they’ve decided not to keep a successful young, local coach with his own goalkeeping academy that runs camps for inverclyde kids during the school holidays. His first team record in three years with two inexperienced keepers and another with absolutely shot confidence has been excellent as well.

Hopefully the club decide to get in an experienced number 2 to coach and help strengthen the playing budget a little.

Turns out via the local rag (yet strangely unreported on for a change here) that the club, err, offered David Scott a contract which he chose to turn down.

So the highlighted claim above was in fact completely unfounded nonsense - par for the course since the Inverness game on here.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
