2024/25 Squad and Transfers

Recommended Posts

We've no idea what goes on behind the scenes. Could be a whole host of reasons why hes moving on- personality clash, work ethic, couldn't agree terms on a new deal or maybe just maybe Dougie has identified someone he believes is better at the job.

Agree with SpoonTon as well, he worked with good keepers, can he really claim he made them better, I'm not so sure. Jack Hamilton had been in Scotland squads, Schwake had been out on loan and impressed at Annan and was highly thought of at Livvy and Mullen looked the part almost instantly. I'm not sure we know for sure he's been fantastic and successful etc, he may well have, but we only see him doing his work for 20-30 mins on a Sat.

We need to trust that the manager knows what he's doing, he works with his staff and players every day and knows their strengths, weaknesses and personalities a hell of a lot more than us.

Good luck to the guy, hope he find something.

We can only go on what his goalkeepers have said about him and they’ve all been full of praise for him in media and interviews during their time at the club.

The Scotland squad keeper certainly thinks that he improved his form under him (see screenshot below text)

Schwake was a young keeper in his first full time season and made a few mistakes which lead to him getting pelters from Imrie (and that’s just the public ones we saw in interviews, who knows what was said behind closed doors). It’s the goalie coach that has to keep his confidence up in moments like that and Schwake went on to have a good season over all.

Mullen looked good from the start I agree but again the coaching side of getting someone through their first full time season with Mullens history of injury worries and the doubts that he’s openly admitted having because of them in interviews cannot be overlooked.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

What I have difficulty understanding is that we're letting decent players leave, and offering decent players reduced terms, yet, we seem to be advertising for some new member of staff or other every couple of weeks or so.

I get the claim that the Alloa chairman had said that the two clubs were mirrored images, in that Morton were full time on the park, but part time off it, while Alloa were the opposite.

But I wonder are all of these new staff members absolutely necessary?

We advertised for a physio, a part time stadium and facilities manager, and business development executive this year. Not sure if I missed anything (didn't mention the volunteer SLO position).

Not starting any judgements on the merits or otherwise, just saying that's what the positions are.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the club filling positions on the business and commercial side of things in and of itself. Maybe the frequency of turnover of non-playing and coaching staff could point to issues, or maybe it’s just been an unlucky spell for the club in losing people who were performing well to more lucrative contracts elsewhere.

Overall I would say I’m happy for the club to be looking to recruit people who’ll be really motivated to move things on for us off the park and hopefully generate income that can go towards helping us on it.

Decent article on Lamar Reynolds and his move to Morton (referenced way too often as Greenock). Interesting to hear him say he spent a lot of time playing wing back with Maidstone, can't imagine he'd be playing that sort of role with us.

They are in the mould of "Imrie signings" so I wouldn't be surprised.

If Millen was being signed up I am surprised he hasn't been announced, didn't he leave Raith in January?

Nah, it wasn't until the end of Feb there was the 'internal matter' that froze him put. Still contracted to Raith and would be a pre-contract signing like most others.

Crawford was miles off it when he was with us. Summed up by his penalty miss against Arbroath. Trust Dougies judgement but no thanks.

As for Davie. He clearly has been doing a great job but players, coaching staff etc moving on isn't unusual in football. For whatever reason he's left its time to move forward.

There's a storm on the horizon

And for that I can't see the sun

For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement

For the ice cream van to come

Was out walking the mrs earlier and noticed a few cars packed up outside stadium. Possible new signing today?

Morton club staff and Morton in the Community staff are still working in the stadium every day during the off season.

You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!
