There's a fair amount of that which would have benefited from a benevolent redraft option before publication tbh.

The entire second half of the interview does seem like a response to Strapp's departure IMO but it is completely unrealistic. There's no way that we can magically determine match fitness for the subsequent year and award contracts on that basis alone.

Agreed

It’s hard to make a judgement on the Strapp offer, like others have said, without knowing how much he was on previously nor how much that has been reduced by.

At the same time, it’s hard not to feel a bit crap about it or to assume we will almost inevitably be downgrading in his position.

I guess if everything aligns well we could end up with a left back who’s an upgrade on Waters, while saving enough cash to facilitate better recruitment elsewhere. Best case scenario of strengthening the whole at the expense of retaining one of the stronger elements from the previous season.

Lots of moving parts and uncertainties in squad building. Far too early to be feeling despondent about things, so I’ll try and default to cautious optimism and hope.

Find it strange we've had absolutely no news on players extending. Sure I read that there was a deadline of last week for players to accept or not or we're moving on.

Surely likes of Garrity, Gillespie etc aren't going to get better deals...

Judging by Dale's comments on negotiating with players who don't contribute enough week in week out they won't have been offered handsome deals by us anyway, which is fair enough.

Does seem strange that it's still quiet on that front but may just be that there's been no opportunity for the customary pen-to-paper pictures yet or something.

It's probably entirely normal at this time of year that players will get in touch to accept offers while on holiday, but clubs won't announce anything until they've come back and signed the contract to avoid getting Ian Harte to St Mirren type egg on their face.

The Daily Record are reporting we have agreed extensions with Broadfoot, Gillespie and Blues. I am sure most fans will be delighted with this uplifting news and will be rushing out to renew their season tickets. Added to the exciting pre-season fixtures...

Pleased about Blues, OK about Gillespie but would have been content if Broadfoot had decided to move on.

People getting impatient for news then finding out Kirk Broadfoot is staying:

I was resigned to being stuck with him for another year as soon as we found out he was offered a contract as there was no chance another club at this level would have any interest in him, but it's disappointing to waste a wage on a liability when there's such a big rebuild elsewhere and we're losing our best defender. Already leaves very little room for error in further defensive recruitment.

Happy enough with Blues and Gillespie, Blues has added versatility to his game and had the best run of form of his career playing on the right during the unbeaten run, Gillespie is fine as cover with someone better to come in to start ahead of him.

Agreed. If he's there to be an experienced head in the dressing room and a 4th choice centre back, fine. If he's there to play on a consistent basis, we're gubbed.

Nah not fine in my opinion. If last season is anything to go by he’ll be starting more often than not, especially if we struggle find half decent full backs and O’Connor (assuming he even decides to stay) is deployed on the right again. It’s an utter waste of a wage

Sorry but all 3 are duds and would have been struggling to get an offer from the seaside leagues. Broadfoot was finished 2 seasons ago and Gillespie offers nothing. I have no idea why people think Blues is half way decent. All very depressing.

Happy with that if true. Blues is a good player at this level and Gillespie if fit is a cool head and experienced. Broadfoot was fine for the majority of last season - would only be concerned if we don't sign anyone else and he is first choice.

There's a storm on the horizon

And for that I can't see the sun

For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement

For the ice cream van to come
