I honestly wasn't expecting much but that was a tough watch.

I knew Germany were a strong side but their press, passing and finishing was superb losing a goal after 11 minutes and it's always going to be tough and we never recovered.

We didn't get anywhere near them and gave them far to much respect, right back was always going to be an issue and Ralston is nowhere near good enough at this level.

I have no idea what Porteous was thinking you are never going to get away with that sort of tackle nowadays deserved red and he really let us down don't want to single out players but that was just stupid.

Move onto the next two games and see what happens.

The bit in bold.

Whilst I agree that he looked to be out of his depth on Friday night, the more established 'senior' players in the Scotland squad - McGinn, McGregor, McTominay, Robertson, Tierney etc - weren't much better.   As a squad collectively Scotland are out of their depth at this level and the best we can now hope for is being a plucky underdog that might snatch a result amongst similar plucky underdogs.  Anthony Ralston seems to be getting made the scapegoat for what was collectively a poor team performance.  The annoying sheep-shaggers that wander about the place singing 'Weee've goat MahGinn' really need to ask themselves if he's actually good enough to merit a song after Friday's game.

Scotland draw against Switzerland and England draw 1-1 against Denmark.   They were pretty ropey in their second half against Serbia too.  I thought this lot were dead certs to win this thing.  Another case of getting carried away with themselves and believing their own hype again.  At least Scottish supporters don't get carried away to the same extent and are aware of their limitations.

I had the ITV coverage on today and in fairness to them they were absolutely scathing of England and said they'd be nowhere near it if they kept playing like this. They were minging and whole everyone is (correctly) slating "Trent", I thought Stones and Trippier were appalling going forward, which they're supposed to be good at. England will find it very hard to break teams down without a moment of magic from Bellingham or even Foden.

Yes, they've been rounding on England since the Serbia game, however they've had a 'no bad' start to the tournament.  However the build up was all about this being the best team they've ever had and how they're going to win it, which is making the criticism bordering on a national meltdown even funnier.

That's their build up for every tournament they're ever in.

Fair point.

The worst thing that will have ever happened to them would be getting beat in the last Euro Finals at home.   They'll cripple themselves with expectation going forward, and will provide no end of amusement when they dont win it.  Again.

Seemed like a clear penalty when Armstrong was brought down in the box, not sure why VAR didn't ask the ref to have a look at it. I assume they thought it was 50:50, but it looked to me more like the defender was leaning into Armstrong. But of course I'm biased, so that's not exactly an objective opinion. Overall though we were very poor again tonight, but so were Hungary. Having said that, they did create a lot more chances than we did, with much less of the ball.

With just one decent performance from three matches, we can't really have too many complaints about failing to qualify. It would of course have been great to have scraped through and to have at least one more game, but if we had been up against one of the top teams I'd have been fearing another proper humping.

Stretching it to suggest we had one decent performance - we were the worst team in the Euros by some distance. Yes we have a limited pool of talent and injuries were an issue but our lack of ambition was frustrating. I was never expecting us to go gung ho in any of the matches but we never looked liked we were doing anything other than making up the numbers. I hope the fans enjoyed themselves but yet another tournament to forget.

Nah, we did well against Switzerland who except against us look fairly decent so far, it's churlish to suggest otherwise. But we were indeed shite in the other two games.

Having said that, if we had been given that penalty and scored then held on for a 1-0 win last night, we'd probably be celebrating a gritty performance. Fine margins and all that.

Thats the way I look upon it, the Hungary game we narrowly lost with the last kick of the ball on a counter-attack however if that didn't happen then it would have been 0-0 at full time.  Which, would have been a fair outcome but nonetheless they scored.  The penalty claim I wasn't surprised we never got.  That referee was abysmal.

Lets face it, as much as we were excited and enjoyed our trip, we never expected much.  Both Switzerland and Hungary were stronger and better organised than us and Ze Jormans, well, they'll be there or thereabouts when the medals get handed out.  If we got two point we'd have still have been out, if we got four points then we would be playing wait & see.

One thing which pisses me off about the whole 'Tartan Army' thing is that cuddly toy image, everyones friend etc.  Its a bit of a false representation.  I would happily trade all that in a heartbeat to be a shower of bastards and a country that actually achieves things.

Switzerland beat the Surrender Monkeys 2-0 to proceed to the Quarter finals.

Its a pity, because it would have been funny if they got to play England in the final again. And beat them, again.

The English are getting beat by that Romanian mob.  Pleasing.

ETA:

Ach bollocks.  It was fun while it lasted.  Maybe next round then.

Watching Romania vs. Netherlands  right now, and one thing that strikes me is the huge support for Romanians.

Would they need to pay the same price as everyone else or do they get their tickets cheaper because they're a pauper country?

ETA:

1-0 to the Dutch.
