Championship 23/24

The Challenge Cup format always pisses me off. I’ve never been as fussed about the trips to Ireland or Wales as others, possibly because they tend to coincide with internationals, though I understand how many folk do and sympathise with them missing out, and the B Teams’ inclusion was of course expected, but disgraceful nevertheless. It can’t go without comment, as by doing so, we head towards the stage of acceptance, which we should never reach.

But if we’re going with this format, the inclusion of Albion Rovers, Cowdenbeath, Berwick and East Stirling, instead of Cumbernauld Colts, Tranent, Civil Service Strollers and Linlithgow Rose, all of whom finished higher in the Lowland League is scandalous.

The tournament criteria being based on historical status rather than footballing merit stinks to the high heavens and this policy should be binned immediately.

I suspect the FAW and IFA have probably had enough of the competition impinging on their domestic calendars, which wouldn’t normally be terribly affected by international breaks, but if we’re going down the route of organising the tournament properly, either a 32 team straight knock out, with the 30 SPFL clubs, Buckie and EK, or a 64 team straight knock out which would conveniently fit in the 18 Highland League and 16 of the 18 Lowland League clubs. Just bin Celtic B and Hearts B and you’ve got a smashing competition, which I doubt would lose much in prestige given how little coverage even the Rangers and Celtic B teams get in the competition.

Everyone’s a winner, but those suggestions would be far too straightforward.

Most definitely. Even worse when they do it in the League Cup with richer rewards - was it Cowden that got a free entry last year?

Yes, in the dubious merits that they were relegated two seasons prior.

All of these spots should go to the highest-ranked team licensed for the tournament in question. B teams shouldn't be in national cups at all.

The SPFL will still find a way to banish us to the deepest depths of teuchterland for the Friday night final day as per.

Hopefully Wick or Barra to maximise the tears and snotters from the sweetie-rustling brigade.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Not really relevant to Championship anymore since relegation, but i wasn't passing up the opportunity to remind folk of that, Kelty apparently dont even own the pitch earmarked for ICT to train on and now Fife council want to weigh up their options since they own it.

Not only have they managed to alienate the local bumpkin natives, their plans aren't even water tight.

Wonderful.

TIME FOR CHANGE!

Falkirk saying they have 18 signed up and expect to only add 2 or 3 more.

I thought they'd be throwing money at it but it sounds like they are watching the pennies due to considerable losses the last few years.

Just imagine they went right back down....

I think they'll struggle. There is a pretty big jump from League 1 to Championship. You can't possibly have a promotion contending Championship campaign with the likes of Gary Oliver, Aidan Nesbitt and Coll fucking Donaldson in your team.

Hamilton charging TWENTY SIX POUNDS for tickets this season.

I'm sure that will attract more fans for them, not sure how clubs can get away with charging such shite prices never liked the ground and I am not saying ours is perfect but that's crazy.

Not going to gloat given we’ve been there ourself. Anyway does that mean they start next season with a 25 point deduction?

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."

Just for future reference, board etiquette dictates that henceforth 'Raith' must always be prefixed with 'Big-Spending'.

Big-Spending Raith.

I just wanted to grab the honour of being the first forum member to follow the correct etiquette as you wisely suggested. We really need to adopt a similar policy for all of our opponents for the forthcoming season. Suggestions anyone?

Fuck them.

In the first instance an asset stripper set out to kill us.

Second time around, I don’t think it’s fair to suggest we hadn’t been asking questions about the continued losses, but critically, we took corrective action as a fanbase by forming MCT, making the club self sufficient and reaching an agreement with the previous owners over the debt and assets. Had the Raes demanded the debt back, Morton would still be around through the fans’ hard work, though probably without the same sympathetic publicity Inverness have received recently.

And let’s not forget, Morton had debt in the region of £2 million after 20 years of Golden Casket. Inverness were losing close to a million a year for God knows how long, and lapping up the success it brought them.

All I’ve seen from the Inverness fans is demands for resignations now the shit’s hit the fan, and very little by way of a plan B. They were happy enough to lap up the good times that were funded on tick, they can now accept the consequences.
