The onus is on the club to mitigate this. Its how businesses work.

It's how you go out of business.  Now stop your nonsense and chuck the shovel away.

Not increasing gate prices when costs are increasing by 10%, would of course result in a 10% reduction in revenue in real terms.

Interested to hear therefore what mitigations the club could take that would allow to absorb this 10% reduction in revenue, without it having a negative impact on their financial viability and/or the quality of the playing squad.

I'm not saying the prices shouldn't go up but that that club shouldn't just do it in isolation. They should look at how they can offset the risk of non-season ticket holders not going which is a real risk in the current climate.

The opposite argument to this is that the club should just put prices up and have blind faith that it won't impact what they bring in at the gate.

If we get 600 at £20 it's £12,000 per week. Dropping by just 55 to 545 at £22 takes us under that at £11,990 and then 100 less is £11,000.

It's fine margins and there will be a tipping point for some so the basic point is the club need to be doing more than ever to make coming every fortnight attractive to the pay at the gate fans. Simply saying buy a season ticket when it's not cost effective for some or a commitment they can make isn't an answer.

Some folk seem to have no idea of economic reality.  If you want better players, you have to pay the going rate, and that money has to come from somewhere.  For those that pine for the days of entry costing a tenner, what would your solution be?  Morton are not immune to the frankly horrendous inflation that is occurring (and let's be clear, a large part of the current inflation in the shops is due to Brexit despite that rarely being mentioned in the MSM - it's not all about the war in Ukraine).

Currently there are a lot of large pay claims being fought over - the end result will be that some people get significant pay rises and will to some extent be able to pay the higher prices that are already here, and they will probably just accept £22 as the way things are as the value of money in real terms erodes, much like the 1970s.  The worst price increases are those relating to energy costs and in particular for Morton that will probably mean vastly increased energy bills - shameful in an energy-rich Scotland but that's what some folk voted for in 2014.  The money to pay for that has to come from somewhere and if you don't want to pay a reasonable entry price then you have to expect a lower quality product on the park (and probably dimmer floodlights to save a few quid :) ).  We, the fans, are the owners of the club now, and whereas previously Golden Casket provided the financial input, now it's up to us.

If cutting the entry price to bring in more punters was the answer to increasing revenue, then it would make sense.  You need to find the sweet spot - something about the Laffer curve IIRC.  i doubt a modest decrease would increase revenue even if it did bring in more spectators - I think VT posted some figures about that a few months ago.

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."

The biggest influence in determining how many turn up and PATG has been and always will be the performance of the team on the pitch, and whether or not we're in yet another relegation dog-fight, or up there challenging for the play-offs and promotion. Reducing the player budget by 10% to absorb and mitigate inflationary cost increases will make it even more difficult to assemble a squad capable of achieving the latter.

Of course some other factors will also come into play which will influence how many PATG, like reduced disposable incomes because wage increases aren't matching inflation. So some folk may no longer be able to afford to go to some games. But that would also be the case if we still charged 20 quid, the extra 2 quid will hardly make a difference to that.

Shame that the syndicalists at RMT are out again on Saturday, otherwise that would have been a fantastic day out (better than going to fucking Hamilton twice next month, that's for sure).

Get the Carlisle game the following week moved as well: Gretna, Stockton or Campbeltown are all acceptable choices.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Latest interview with Dougie. Says he can't see anything else materialising signings wise and again goes on about budget limitations in not so many words.

Well let's hope he's talking shite. If we start the season with what we have just now plus kabia we are in serious trouble.

We must barely have 11 players so that's got to be him just playing a cautious hand.

Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'

HT 1-1

Formation looked like a 4-2-3-1

RB: Pignatiello

CB: Hynes

CB: Baird

LB: King

CM: Lyon

CM: Jacobs

LM: Garrity

CAM: McGratten

RM: McGregor

ST: Easdale

No stand outs during the game so far.

Also looks like Jaze kabia is one of the trialist on the bench so presuming we have signed him.

It was an absolute clanger. Came to collect a ball in the air at the edge of his box and it slipped right through his hands for the boy to stick it into an empty net.

Can’t really sugar coat it I’m afraid, he’d have been having nightmares about it last night at least.

Shame for the boy. Got to be worst nightmare for a trialist goalkeeper. If Dougie is just wanting a young bysouth type keeper for emergencies and to help with goalkeeper training then he might get kept on anyway.
