Match Preview/Thread - Morton vs Dunfermline (8th January)

We're worth the lead here. Ugwu's been disappointing, his first touch has deserted him today, but it was serendipitous because it wouldn't have broken like that for Oliver otherwise.

Some finish. Thought he'd booted it miles wide as well.

I was so sure it was going over. But it was an inch-perfect hit in the end.

Got to give some credit to Blues, who's been very good going forward today. And though we're not exactly battling in midfield, we're forcing them out wide where they're not offering much danger at all.

I was nervous about the formation but we're looking reasonably comfortable. Of course one silly error could change it all but the same is equally true at the other end.

kens the score

We're worth the two-goal lead. The team is playing like they believe they can win against a Dunfermline side that Gus would be treating like Barcelona. Amazing how this works! If you believe that fine margins and luck are the difference in a close league then the correct way to approach it is to make those percentages work in your favor.

Pressing really well this half and Dunfermline aren't good enough to play how Hughes wants them to play.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

Yep, they're toothless. Taking nothing away from Morton but Dunfermline are an extremely poor side. Without Lawless they'd have nothing about them at all. Their only hope is either to change their approach at the break or hope Morton tire enough that the press is ineffective.

What I don't get about Dunfermline is how far back they sit, defensively, while trying to play a passing game.

We aren't creating too much but we look like scoring whenever we have a decent chance.

Should really be looking to bury them in the 2nd half here shooting downhill.

This is sensational. As soon as we press them they absolutely crumble. Three outstanding goals. Blues best player on the pitch. Reilly outstanding too. Surely we can't lose it from here?!

This honestly isn't a criticism of him - far from it - but Dunfermline are making it easy for him. They can't run the ball centrally and they don't commit defenders forward for short passes, so he has little to do defensively. That frees him up to attack. But again, not a criticism - he still has to do the attacking work, and he's doing it so, so well. He's been in the middle of everything, always giving an option, and the quality of his goal speaks for itself. It's like watching a completely different player.
