He'll get a regular gig on a phone in before the year is out. Plucky little full time Morton unfairly matched up against behemoths like part time Arbroath. Only a matter of time before the club is dragged through the mud in the media for sacking him just before Christmas etc.

I always wonder why there are little to no coaches in Scottish lower league football able to organise a team in to a proper structured high pressing style of football.

One thing that a lot of players at this level have is fitness so coaching defensive shape and when to trigger presses etc should be more achievable than getting them to play like prime Barcelona.

Defenders in this league can barely pass a ball under no pressure so could see it being very successful at this level, yet the standard of coaching is awful so you get shite like Gus, Hopkin, Peter Grant etc.

What I'm saying is I think we should hire a German lower league coach.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

Players should be fit already. There's never been a time in history it's been easier. Stuff that twenty years ago was the domain of specialist textbooks is now common knowledge. You can get heart rate monitors better than ones hospitals used a decade ago for less than a hundred pounds. Literally all you need to build endurance is an accurate heart rate monitor, a surface to run on, Google, and dedication. That's literally it. You can then work on other stuff at the club.

Edit - sorry, misread your post. You're right. The few players who aren't fit shouldn't be considered for selection.

Ouch, bit harsh. He's a bad football manager and had to go, but from what I've seen and heard I think he's a decent bloke, so calling him a cunt is out of order, IMO. He didn't award himself a 2 year contract after all.

Pretty sure he would have negotiated the 2 year deal and unfortunately we gave into it.

He was only trying to get the best deal possible, which is what everyone does when they negotiate employment contracts. So I'm sure he did ask for a 2 year deal, but it doesn't mean we should have agreed. He's not to blame for that.

Jim McIntyre and Brian Rice better be nowhere near us. Andy Millen is unthinkable. Peter Grant would be the end of the club.

The problem is, I can't think of anyone who is desirable  who would take it off the top of my head. Unless I'm missing someone obvious, it's probably worth taking a punt on someone ambitious who wants to go on to bigger things.

McIntyre is a level above all the other merry-go-round picks like Rice (totally bewildering why he is even mentioned IMO) and would be an upgrade on McPherson.

I'd be looking for an outside the box option though:

Rajamaki/Lindberg - push the Finnish legend button to reunite fan interest with ownership.

Neil Warnock - pitch a semi-retirement in Dunoon spent effortlessly bodying Scottish football for The Famous. There is literally no cost to making an approach.

Caretaker to a summer restructure - Sir David Irons. Proven success in a relegation battle, would ruthlessly capitalise on Ugwu's strengths in a team of organised hammer-throwers.

All of the merry-go-round picks fall between those stools IMO. We should be willing to pursue them after we consider more imaginative solutions to the problems that we face.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Gus rightly gone but I'm a bit concerned at who the board have got up their sleeves next, especially if they thought giving Gus a 2 year deal in the summer was the correct thing to do.

I'm hoping for an exciting left-field appointment. I know it didn't work with JJ but that's not to say it couldn't work.

He already owns a house in Dunoon and is waiting for a semi-retirement job to move up here. Amazon Prime can get exclusive rights to televise his lower league Scottish football journey, and the club's 10% will fund our European charge.

Make it happen.

Good to see him gone, and it’s absolutely the correct decision, but I’m terrified to see who the incompetents in the boardroom have lined up for the next TTG campaign.

Incidentally, as long as it doesn't adversely affect Morton. Good luck to Gus in the future. It didn’t work out for him but in the few dealings I had with him he came across as a thoroughly decent guy.

Although maybe he’s used up all his luck with that handsome pay off.

Thats pretty much how I feel.  I am disappointed that it didnt work out for him because he seemed to fit the bill at the time of what our club needed - an older experienced guy (similar to Duffy in many respects) who could steady things after the recent trainwreck appointments of Hopkin, Johannson and McKinnon, however it wasn't to be.  He was given more time than anyone else to turn the corner so there can be no complaints from him in that regard.

The one thing that soured his time at Morton for me - yes its signing THAT player.  Hopefully he finds himself at Kelty Hearts in the next transfer window.

I think that if Gus McPherson wasn't previously a St. Mirren manager, a lot of people would have been more accepting of him early doors.  He was on a hiding to nothing in that regards, signing a sex offender never helped either, but ultimately it was down to results.

Indeed. I bear no personal animosity towards him, no doubt he gave it his best shot, but ultimately it fell well short of the requirements. I wish him well in the future. I am actually far more angry at whoever gave him a 2 year contract in the first place.

Thank goodness MCT finally woke up to its paying members!!!

For a team to play on the front foot for 10 mins in a game when its been there all along is just the straw that's broken the camel's back for me.

I'm well aware there will be plenty of more informed post ....but it was such a poor decision to give out the ridiculous 2 year deal instead of a standard rolling contract. Ffs even o'Neil at Celtic had 1. Just goes to show how ridiculous that was!!!

Hopefully lessons learned and no more ....if you earn it you get it...focus the mind from now on in!!!

Nothing for nothing from now on in and we have to be much more clued in on the contacts we give out!!

Martin O'Neill had a one year rolling contract, which differs somewhat from a one year contract.
