Massive result. Especially considering results elsewhere.

The difference Ugwu makes to this team is ridiculous. The flick ons and hold up play lets us get up the pitch and sustain periods of pressure on the opposition defence  - something we've not done since he's been out the team. The Ugwu and Knowles partnership looks dangerous.

McPherson still got the defence wrong to start with but hopefully going forward we see a back 4 of Ledger - Lithgow - McEntee - Russell. McEntee is a class act and Ledger is far superior to McLean, who's done.

Special mention to Hamilton who again was excellent. That save when we had just gone 3-1 up was brilliant.

I'd start with the team that finished the game going forward but with Knowles in for Reilly.

We did seem to sit off Dunfermline for long periods of the game and give them too much space and time and better teams would probably have punished that.

Hopefully this is a turning point under Gus but knowing him he'll start McLean and Muirhead again next week.

Sums things up perfectly. We improved when Ledger came on and again when Muirhead departed. I thought we stood off Dunfermline too much and allowed them to run rings round us for much of the game. Later in the game we pressed them higher up the pitch and that won it for us.

We continue to commit silly fouls that surrender possession. Need to stop that.

Ugwu gives us a focus that we can build on. He looked as if he was giving up a lot of the time early in the game but as the game went on he seemed to get up to speed and ended up scoring the crucial second goal. Well worth his place.

That trip on Knowles in the box was a stonewaller, not given because he was running away from goal but still a clear penalty.

We are now up to 8th and getting some break. We are actually not far away from 5th. Next week a sterner test, but Killie are not unbeatable. Once Gozie gets fully match fit, I reckon we will climb the table.

Even first half but Morton dominated after the break. The benefit of a target man up front who can actually hold the ball up allows Oliver to be more of an influence. Midfield was second best for much of the first half but second half were much better. Defensively the substitution of McLean allowed for what looks our best back four to finally get on the park. I never thought we looked in danger after we scored the second with the third being the icing on the cake. Pity the boys heading off for the U21s but going forward it looks pretty clear who should be making up the spine of the team. Excellent and most welcome three points.

They are (spiritually.)

Of course, but in terms of their current squad they can afford to offload a player who wasn't available for most of last season's games without facing a real consequence for it.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control...

That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

Don't see the penalty incident with Knowles when we were 1-0 up in those highlights, unless I've missed it.  I wonder why that's been edited out...

Wasn't on our highlights either.

Pity. Would like to see the incident again.

I feel a lot more confident having seen Ugwu for the last game and a half that we can win games and get up the league.

I'd say we could definitely be a bit more direct at times, and were guilty of fannying about with posession (which we sadly don't have the quality for) rather than getting the ball in the box. Likely that will happen a bit more naturally against better opposition than we have faced in recent weeks.

As for Dunfermline, very obviously a team of individuals. Clearly not a happy place to be playing football and while they have plenty of decent players, I think we can be hopeful that they will take quite a bit to turn them around. In truth they were miles away from winning that game, albeit close enough to possibly nick a point up until the penalty.

There are A few potential issues with Ugwu being the solution (none of which are his fault).

1) His style of play makes him liable to injury. Being physically aggressive when holding the ball up and trying to run in behind exposes him to a lot of wear and tear as well as dodgy challenges during every match.

2) Our team risks becoming dependent on Ugwu to break teams down. Let's not forget that this tactic looked great against Dunfermline and Hamilton in the opening two games of the season. After that, we just shelled the ball long in Ugwu's general direction all the time - see the Partick game - and it was terrible.

3) There will also be opponents who are less flimsy at the back than those two sides as well as referees who will penalise Ugwu for most 50-50s on any given day.

Tl;Dr version - We need Ugwu AND another credible attacking threat (set-piece specialism or from open play) to be reasonably confident of getting up the league.
