capitanus
Where did The Seahorses play in Greenock in 1996? Was anyone from here at the gig? *insert signature here*
bob_the_builder
They played Rico's. I wasn't at the gig myself (too young, but loved that album) but got talking about it to a regular in the pub I used to work in who claims he was at it. here today, gone to hell

El gofer
It was a secret gig of sorts. A performance from an unnamed band was announced. Folk started working out it was Squires. It was bonkers that he was playing in Ricos. McD etc organised a good few bands around then. Ocean Colour Scene and Dodgy and also Hurricane #1 all played Ricos. Seem to remember Gene playing in Word Up. 20.1.
TRVMP
I was slightly too young for the Stone Roses but listened to the Seahorses album not long after it came out. In honor of this thread I put it on again for the first time in years. Clearly it's a product of its time but the guitar still sounds great today and there's some real stand-out tracks even beyond the singles. You wonder what Squire could have done if he'd just stuck with a band and ground it out for a while. Maybe he could have made something truly special. Or maybe it would have been like The Kinks where they just go on too long trying to catch lightning in a bottle against a backdrop of conflict. Who knows? Either way, what little the Seahorses did produce is still worth a listen today, a generation later.
