Could have done without that. Hope it truly is him having an opportunity for the future that he had to step into now rather than behind the scenes shenanigans which can never be ruled out.

Any chance of looking for a gig for Omar wherever you are going Jim?

Hello everybody its been a few weeks, looks like nothing has changed...same old patter. Jim McAlister is retiring topic starts and just over an hour later the first reply of the Rae/GC and the us

There's complete cynicism from the support about Golden Casket's motives in everything they do. That cynicism is entirely down to their own management of the club over the last 20 years, with the last

The point I'm making CHC The election was stolen, we hear over and over and over.........without a shread of evidence that can be substantiated, provided or held up in Court. Yeah but it's a fact

This is Morton, you just knew we were due another negative story. Going into a game on a positive note is beyond this shambles of a Board.

Best of luck Jim in your career outside football.

how many career change choices would mean a footballer would have to totally pack in during a season and not just go part time and work a phased departure?

One such thing is a place at Tulliallan and told this is your start date - or risk not getting in on a future intake if vacancies in the area you want run dry.
What other things like that are possible options?

Has done a fantastic job this season and has without doubt coached the players on the park and been a real leader when it's been needed. Gutted but all good things....

He surely has another season in him at this level...especially when you look at young McDonald Tolmie and Rafferty who seemed to last longer with far less to offer than Jim still has.

Great servant. Hoped at least for a swan song playoff game...shame no fans to thank the fella!!!

I think Jim talked about taking his badges and so on....is this not the type of focal figure MCT should be using in the youth set up? A player who started at Morton played in the premier league and in England?

Just a thought...especially as it seems hes not figuring in first team affairs. McGraw and Hopkin started there.

Aye because those examples are seriously relevant to 2021.

Losing McAlister now is a serious blow to us but if he was planning to finish at the end of the season - which would have been the right time to finish regardless - and has a decent career option lined up now then all the best to him. He's put up with a lot more at this zoo of a club over two spells than whining little tossers like Colin McMenamin or Rhegan - fucking Rhegan - Tumilty* - who shouldn't darken the door of Cappielow in any guise without a guaranteed hounding.

McAlister still merits a send-off once these useless, chinless wonders are finally off the scene. Get Cal-Mac to organise the big ferry and police horse escort now for the inaugural Bute Tournament, hosted by The Famous.

* Fucking Tumilty as well btw.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

I'd say such roles are more common than not, if you're talking things in the professions or mid-level employment. There is every chance that Jim has found such a role somewhere and needs to strike while the iron is hot.

Unfortunately, there is an equal chance that this could have waited until season's end, but he's either jumped or been pushed. We simply have no way of knowing which is which unless Jim decides to speak up, and if he's about to start a career for himself elsewhere it wouldn't be to his advantage to do so.

Regardless of what's happening I wish him the best of luck.

The stadium was just resting in my account

Been aff the internet for a few hours and now this. This club are something else. Sad to see Jim leave in such inauspicious circumstances, after giving the best part of ten years' service over his two spells. I wish him well.

Nae manager, nae CEO, nae captain...and still nae backup goalie. That govt grant cheque has well and truly been pocketed and we've been cast off and left to drift the rest of the season.

The Raes pocketing that money looks more and more likely. Fucking arseholes.

Well that was one we didn't see coming. But gutted to be honest as he still has a lot to offer but all the best to him.

They may come up with some reason to make it look legitimate while it isn't really, or even do a runner not caring about the consequences, but it shouldn't be as simple for Golden Casket as just pocketing £500K and running out the door.

There was a clear string attached that the grant was to be used for standard footballing costs or the government will be having it back. A golden handshake to directors (asset-strippers at that) surely isn't covered there.

I'm not sure how that's actually going to be policed so maybe they can do some transparent bullshit like saying they're leaving the stadium in the club's hands for £495K, or maybe they'll chance their arm that it'll be the club rather than Golden Casket in a six figure hole if the authorities come looking for it back.

While there are obvious risks though and it's clear they have no intention of spending a penny - their strategy evidently amounts to hoping we can just coast through the rest of the season and get away with it - I don't think it's going to be as easy for them as simply deciding to take the money and bolting out the door.

Disappointed with this news and that Jim has decided to leave at this point.

Felt he was having a solid season and would ensure the club would see this season through.

Had missed a few games lately so possibly hampered by a minor injury.

Not over surprised he is not staying as part of the coaching team as Miller has slotted in there and would be in pole position for the main job next season.

There has to be life after football and Jim has been involved with the family building firm in Paisley for a few years so it maybe be that all considering now is the best time for him to go.

Best wishes Jim and thanks for you efforts over the years and hope you enjoy the new challenge.

Well we all hope that the spending of this grant will be properly monitored, certified and audited.

Although I am not sure how deep such processes will be applied. I previously managed a £1,000,000 Scottish government grant and didn't find the monitoring process over ardurious. But here is hoping with the political flack that's going around and questioning by Ton supporters to our local MSP that the spending of funds is used to cover its intended use.

You would hope the board members from MCT will be able to monitor how it’s used.

I’m no fan of the Raes but I doubt even they would do something as crooked as pocketing a government grant that’s meant to keep money going to employees

here today, gone to hell

All three players that you mentioned from the 90s were younger than McAlister when they left Morton. Also examples from 30 years ago so not entirely relevant.

Is there an echo on this forum? Can only assume you didn't read the king of keyboard warriors VTs post.

I left the school playground a long long time ago but in my opinion its relevant to me and maybe guys who left greenock along time ago...

It's certainly better examples than a mercenary and a boy who was an average also ran. To compare Jim McAllister to them just isn't relevant in any shape or form. Neither is a midfielder for a start🤪

Perhaps you can suggest someone then?

Where is the idea coming from that the Rae family are pocketing half a million pounds of public money?

Well they already abused the furlough scheme so nothing ruled out.
