Popular Post port-ton
Plans to make plans is always the answer with MCT and the Morton Board. I'd like to see some of the things they talk about actually being followed through on because right now it's an absolute shambles. Beyond pre season Christmas is your best opportunity to sell merchandise and we've done absolutely nothing. If commercial improvement isn't a priority then what is? If improved social engagement isn't a priority then what is? If having a team with the ambition to finish above 8th at the start of the season isn't the priority then what is? Why is it always down to the silent majority shareholders who don't have power at the club to point out the obvious to the front facing majority shareholders who get to spend our money while not making any real effort to improve other streams of income. MCT since you need the fans survey to explain to you what fans want, I'd like to add a comment to mine, which is Get a fucking grip! 8 Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things! Popular Post TRVMP
I'm sure when the whole MCT thing kicked off a couple of years ago, the commercial potential of the club was one of the things identified for improvement. Wasn't it? Why is it only now a priority? Meanwhile: do they think every other club in Scotland doesn't have hoops to jump through to put on games? I get that it's hard work. It's also what they're there to do. Using the survey to gauge the things that matter to a large number of people is all well and good, and I'm glad they're taking that step. But having an array of tat for sale at Christmas isn't really ground-breaking stuff, is it? I'd love to know who, specifically, sent these messages out and on whose authority, because I don't think they're well-suited for it at all. At a time when the new manager is talking about our potential and how we need to all pull together in one direction, having someone at MCT basically go back to "poor wee Morton, stupid wee basket case, you should be grateful you're allowed in at all" is not on.

For what it's worth I submitted my survey last week and added - admittedly a bit snottily - one of the things I wanted was "basic competence." There is far too much treading water taking place. I understand that people are under pressure and I'm sure they're working hard, but this mindset of how hard it is to put on games (it's hard for everyone, not just Morton) and how they've got limited resources (as opposed to the Qatari billionaires at, for example, Arbroath or Montrose) and how it's the fans' fault for not telling them so they need this ridiculously overwrought survey to do it (even though it was identified as a weak point of the club when MCT kicked off two years ago)... I'm not ungrateful for volunteers like this but I do wonder if they're doing more harm than good by hanging around the place with an aura of self-pity.

It's hard to really know where to start, apart from the fact that the club is utterly, utterly doomed if that's how its owner communicates to the public. Makes you wonder what kind of shite goes on in private if that's what they're willing to say publicly. I'll keep on saying this until I'm blue in the face: the fact that the guys on the board are volunteers means they deserve more scrutiny and not less, because they have no personal skin in the game that the rest of us don't. They are quite literally there on the strength of the fans' money. The idea that we're supposed to feel sorry for them for having a lack of 'time and resource' is an absolute cheek because what resource they do have is coming out of the pockets of hundreds of Morton supporters who don't get blazers. Of course, we mere plebs will never find out who's tweeting this stuff out, whether it's a guy on the MCT board or a guy on the Morton board, or both, or neither, so there's very little recourse here.
port-ton
Footballing giants Ayr Utd managing to do the absolute bare minimum of promoting merchandise while at the same time adding supporter engagement to the process of buying said merch. Not sure where they found two club staff, a mobile phone and a clipboard to carry out that draw when they've got a game to put on. 1 Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things! This is what's bothering me about it. I freely admit that my interest in Morton these days largely doesn't get much further than the bare minimum to still be routinely frustrated by just about everything the club does, so whilst I'd still have rolled my eyes at this previously, the new manager has reignited a wee bit of interest again. I haven't been at Cappielow in fuck knows how long and didn't have any real plans on going back any time soon, but with the announcement of Imrie I was planning on going along on Boxing Day*: for once we saw a good decision by the club (although I suppose that depends on other candidates), and also a manager who's setting his stall out to change everything that's zapped my enthusiasm... ...and then this shite. What's the fuckin point? I'd maybe have still ended up going*, but it's just so fuckin demotivating to have something to cheer about and then read the nonsense MCT are coming out with. The actual content of the tweets is bad enough, but the worst thing is the attitude and approach they betray. It's pathetic, it's not on and whoever is responsible shouldn't be allowed anywhere near any organisation ever again. *Obviously circumstances have put paid to that, but still. 1 AWMSC
Jamie_M
It's wild how often Morton fans actually have to beg for info on how to give the club their money. It's even wilder how often that effort is met with a brick wall.
irnbru
Wonder if anyone will stop their contributions now. These responses are a bit of a low point and doesn't really give any confidence in the club or give any reason to be an MCT member.
Popular Post GIBBYTON
I can understand the GM/CEO, saftey officer and a few of the board having to sortnout covid issues. What about the commercial manager, digital marketing and board member responsible for marketing/commercial matters. This really isn't difficult to plug the basic merch that already exists, get a few Christmas special hats/mugs and then go look at other teams websites and socials and get a few ideas. Literally a few hous work. MCT spent a lot of time talking to the thousands that could be saved and thousands of extra revenue before the takeover, this shouldn't need time to implement if what they were telling us was true. This continues to add to the growing mistrust of the MCT and GMFC boards.
HamCam
Are people really surprised? Sadly, MCT are not fit for purpose. Another Christmas when I have not bought a single piece of Morton merchandise but not to worry it is not a priority for MCT - they have a supporters survey to navel gaze over. Does anyone really believe MCT still has 890 members?
port-ton
Considering we are fan owned and not fan run I find it amazing that almost every single good idea implemented by the club has come from reacting to fans moaning on here and social media. Throughout lockdown every Facebook wife in the country had the ingenuity to start a bonus ball for some crap and made themselves a small fortune, but we can't think to offer a Strip or couple of places at hospitality for one of the smaller games etc. You're not telling me that between selling to fans and local businesses that we can't sell at least 500 bonus ball tickets at a fiver a go for two hospitality tickets that were probably going to go unused anyway. That's over 2 grand right there I've brought in to the club sitting on the couch in my boxers. 1 Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things! port-ton
My twitter timeline is filled just now with diddy clubs making an effort to generate income. Have to go back to 14th December to get the last time the club advertised anything and that was hospitality and half price season tickets. 1 Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things! Popular Post vikingTON
In the club's defence there's no way that they could possibly have anticipated any demand for products at Christmas when they took over. It's very unfortunate that this event sprung out of nowhere within the first six months of the regime. A lessons learned feedback form to be distributed to MCT members in May, so that they can spend next autumn mulling over whether this could happen to them again. 4 The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
TheGoon
Can understand a survey for general merchandise ideas and to ask fans which bits of shite they’d like to see produced, but to identify we need to do anything!? I’m honestly baffled at it and that line on Twitter about the hoops to jump through. It’s straight out the Rae playbook, and even they occasionally managed to sell nonsense at Christmas. Popular Post BishopBrennan
Today was yet another 'sliding doors' moment for MCT. I made the point on the podcast that the attitude the players have towards the fans is either reinforced, or even stems, from those inside the club. Today's replies to James Binnie, in particular, were incredibly galling and pulled back the curtain to the views that exist inside MCT. That showed a complete lack of self-awareness from whoever was tweeting from the MCT account, and I'd be incredibly interested to learn who it was. We've now had 18 months of middle-management business jargon from the folk in charge. Rather than hit us with bluster and bullshit bingo - get your fingers out and start showing tangible results. It's been spoken about and planned internally since the takeover was announced. It's also worth bearing in mind that, during this time period, an individual with outstanding professional commercial credentials was so frustrated with MCT that he felt the need to walk away. Cut the bluster. Cut the bullshit. It's time to shit or get off the pot and admit you're out of your depth. I absolutely cannot believe that we're sitting here, less than 48 hours after Sir Douglas has returned, speaking negatively about both Morton and MCT. What a shite situation, on the back of the biggest opportunity both parties have at a second chance to win over the fanbase. An entirely underwhelming announcement of Sir Douglas getting the job and now this utter tripe. It certainly isn't the 'Big Bad Morton Fans' that are to blame for wanting a bit of positive engagement and the completely unreasonable request of *checks notes* the club maximising their commercial activity at Christmas. In fact, if we need to up commercial income, I might develop and sell my own MCT Bullshit Bingo drinking game. 'The club definitely need to improve X', 'Moving forward', 'I don't disagree', 'We're committed to', 'Jumping through hoops' and 'Engaging with fans' are all one shot each. This could get messy. 1 7 You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!
