port-ton Posted May 13 Posted May 13 That’s a hilarious attack given his years of Facebook maw posts. No one has hung around during so many periods of incompetence at Morton yet he always seems to have the answers when he’s slithered away again. Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!
Popular Post Toby Posted May 21 Popular Post Posted May 21 I’ll have something out over the weekend if you could bear with me on it. Working through a full update and I’ve got a lot of back and forth to be agreed upon. It’s not just a case of writing a quick report and sending it out, I have to ensure all parties are happy with what’s communicated. Thanks for everyone’s patience. 1 13

CM48 Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Trying not to sound like a rant here but 60 days has come and went, as has extended deadline to end of May. Russell did reply to an email I sent asking about progress and hopefully hearing a financial update from the club before we get asked to vote again on Estrella, as last one was 18 months ago with Michael Harkins, but that was also now 2 weeks ago. If the delays are down to MCT and GMFC boards then what are the reasons? Or if the delays are down to Estrella then maybe that would make me wary of having them take shares. I can’t help think that 60 days was suggested as both parties agreed that would be ample time so someone must be not chasing things up properly? Perhaps an announcement is imminent where all will be explained but I do worry we might be missing out on a £750K investment and a potentially fresh approach to running the club when we should be doing all we can in as timely a manner possible to secure it.
TONofmemories Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Or, more likely, legals is holding things up/held up as is the case in these transactions unless you have an internal legal counsel. TIME FOR CHANGE!

It's almost as if complex due diligence is complex, and at the end of it it's not just rubber stamp and on we go. Regardless, Estrella seemed happy with progress. https://estrellafootball.group/news/due-diligence-nears-completion-on-greenock-morton-investment
CM48 Posted June 9 Posted June 9 I’m sure it is, I wouldn’t know. But if it is more than 60 days complex, why tell us all that 60 days will be how long it takes? My point is that someone isn’t delivering on the timescale, and we as owners might like to hear who or why. Or how long should we wait past the deadline, and the extended deadline, before it’s polite to ask? Asking to be patient without really explaining why doesn’t fill me with confidence. I can’t even remember how long ago it was that this was first brought to the MCT board and yet here we are well into June and…? I’m just saying that for me, if there’s an offer on the table like the one Estrella have put forward maybe we (or they) shouldn’t be extending and missing deadlines? I’ve said on here before that I’m grateful to those who volunteer to sit on the board and it’s not something I could commit to or be any use at, but if things aren’t happening as they themselves said they should then again I don’t see what’s wrong with asking why?
TONofmemories Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Often in these types of deals, there's NDA's in place to limit what can be said. We shouldn't be expecting a running commentary of every minute detail relating to the due-diligence/exclusivity. TIME FOR CHANGE!

It's probably more an error of judgement committing to a date than an indication of things going wrong given the last update was positive - I'd rather we are thorough (and actually it's a good thing the other party are too - plenty of chancers have invested in clubs over the years). Jani Inenuot Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Due diligence is a time-limited discovery period, but the end of that doesn't mean the process is finished. Not sure what "progress" you'd expect to see given confidentiality etc needed to protect the interests of both parties. Both sides have basically said "things are going well" (via comms on here and an Estrella press release) which is about as much as could be expected. The fact that neither side has announced withdrawal could be taken as a positive. 2
CM48 Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Any expectations I have are taken from what both parties have outlined. If they keep saying things are going well in October without any deal being done should I be ok with that?

It was an exclusivity period to let both parties carry out due diligence and legal stuff etc. The most recent updates suggest that it has went well and there are just a couple of details they are still working on. Beyond that I’m not sure what sort of an update you expect. If the prolonged due diligence was holding up our appointing a manager or giving our manager a budget then it would be a different story, but it isn’t so I don’t know what the issue is.
HamCam Posted June 9 Posted June 9 I would rather all parties take their time and make sure any agreement is ready to take to the fans. If it takes a bit longer than initially expected so be it. Better to get it right first time. 1

Depends. if the lack of progress is due to one side 'ghosting' it and it dying on the vine, I'd want us to withdraw sooner rather than later so that we can start thinking in other directions. If the lack of progress is purely on the outside and there are in fact things moving behind the scenes, and the end outcome will be what we have voted for (a portion of the club's equity sold for 750k and integration with Estrella platform and staff) then I'd be fine waiting months if we had to. 1 Morton

I don’t remember the 60 days being put out as a rough guesstimate…it might take longer but who knows… you know, legal stuff etc. Surely stating 60 days is absolutely a target or deadline otherwise why say it? Also it might just be me again but how can an extra £250k per year coming into the club not possibly affect our manager’s budget? To summarise my “issue” again. Deadlines missed with no explanation why, just a “bear with us” communication a couple of weeks ago. All to do with 30% of our club in exchange for £750K which is a big deal. A deal that was brought to the club and MCT months before the proposal was even put out to the club’s owners. No financial update in 18 months. Posting on here to see if anyone else has concerns that we’re now over a week into June and wondering just how long we should wait patiently for a resolution on the above? Simply waiting and trusting it’ll all be fine just feels a bit negligent, so all I’m doing is asking questions regarding progress and information and no one here has really given any answers. 1 1

I could maybe see your point if they had actually used the word deadline, target or cut off date, but they didn’t. It was an exclusivity period to allow both parties to share information and carry out due diligence. I expect that the 60 days was chosen based on an estimate, and it’s ended up taking longer than estimated. 1 hour ago, CM48 said: Also it might just be me again but how can an extra £250k per year coming into the club not possibly affect our manager’s budget? I feel like it’s been made pretty clear that the money is intended to be primarily spent on longer term improvements rather than transfers. Even if a small portion of the first years money might have ended up in the playing budget, this could still be used to top up the existing budget or for reinforcements in Jan. My point is that these protracted negotiations haven’t held up the player budget in the way the Dalrada farce did last year. 1 hour ago, CM48 said: To summarise my “issue” again. I agree that an update on the clubs finances would be good. I expect that this will be given at the club AGM (which I believe is overdue but has maybe been delayed until this Estrella negotiation is concluded). I get that you are wanting the best for the club and your concerns come from a good place but I do think you are overreacting a bit about the 60 day “deadline”. These things take time and we need to make sure we get it right one way or another. Edited June 9 by Greacen2000 2
