Pay What You Can

It is good for a novelty. Would only work 4 or 5 times a season.

Their crowd went to 700 from 300 so you add on the programme sales, potential scarf sales, pies, drinks etc They have likely come away with a decent profit.

That tube Derek Johnston said "no reason why this could not be sustained each week" it would die of death if done each and every week but every 2 month do a game it would be decent.

For us, we would neecould look at a £5/£1 for a game to try boost crowd and get behind the players in the current plight.

I was reading on twitter that some fans had paid up to £30 to get in, so I guess it might have balanced out.

For a club like Albion Rovers, who usually pull in around 300 fans, if they were to gain 30-50 extra fans then it will have been a completely worthwhile excercise.

I also read that Albion Rovers are finally doing some work to upgrade Cliftonhill. They are hoping to get a safety certificate for the terrace opposite the Main Stand to allow them to host crowds of more than 1,000 for cup games and the like, and they are also looking into the possibility of an enclosure behind one of the goals. Fair play to them, I hope it comes off, as Cliftonhill really is a horrific place.

Horrific indeed, but it has potential to be a cracking wee ground.

There should be SPFL-wide discount weekends on specifically arranged dates IMO. Something like 2 weekends a season (so all get a home game) where the entrance is £5 and free for under 12s. I think to get the best out of such schemes you have to make it nation-wide and get some real publicity behind it. Sometimes communities need a good reminder that the clubs are actually there, and lapsed fans need a reminder that they enjoy attending football matches.

I don't think discount weekends as such would work as how do you then make sure everyone - or each community in this case - has a shot of these discounts. *Edit having read your post properly :1eye: I can see you've already thought of that but I don't think it would work out that you'd have every team home for one weekend and away for the other.

I think it should work as more of a quota. Every team in the SPFL has to have 2 of these discount games per season or something and they are free to choose which games themselves and advertise for it themselves. But I agree with the principle.

Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'

I don't think it would work if a club were to try it over an entire season, but I like the idea of clubs doing it for 2 games a season.

Your opening home game of the season might be an idea, with the hope of 'hooking' the 50/50 fans to return. One of the games over the Xmas period where money is tight for many fans would be the other obvious one.

It would all depend on what clubs were able to agree on. It's one of those things that's impossible for us to know. It would need to be worked out in advance of the fixtures being decided - I'd guess that you're probably right that it would get too complicated.
