Ground 'upgrading'?

As far as I'm aware, the end of this current month is the deadline by which promotion candidates need to submit proposals as to how to bring their grounds up to the required SPL standard: what is expected on our plans?

- Undersoil heating, presumably remains a must (despite the infrequency of games being called off at Cappielow due to its location)

- the notorious 6,000 seat requirement

I assume that the St Mirren stand will be incorporated into the WDE as part of this plan, but how many seats does that give us? Elsewhere, would there be an option to put a gazebo-style stand behind the Sinclair Street end in order to make up the total? Ross County managed to do a similar job at their 'Jailend' in time for last August. In my opinion, the Cowshed should be the last place that should be touched by further seating requirements, but there would be a last ditch option: removing the lower tier of terracing in place of a second (or combined) bank of seating.

Whether we need to carry out the works or not, it's interesting to note what the club's plans would be for this change, and whether they could deliver this before the start of the season, or anticipate some ground-sharing.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Considering it's highly unlikely that the league will be decided by then the club will be taking a bit of a gamble with any upgrades as we could quite easily spend £500K then lose out to Thistle. IMO we'll win the league but there's always the possibility. One way to look at it is the work will need done regardless, I suppose.

Ground sharing would be suicidal imo as we're already struggling for crowds and will be up against it to survive in the top flight. For that reason we must be at Cappielow.

As ever, a firm statement of intent from the club would be reassuring and I don't just mean a blase "the work will be done."

It is just proposals that are required by 31 March - no way that any work will happen until the league is decided.

It's not a matter of proposals being in by 31st March. That's the deadline for the stadium to be compliant. An extension of time can be granted but I think that is only where work is under way but not finished. Latest extension is end of June IIRC. I cannot see us being admitted to the SPL next season unless we groundshare for the first 22 games.

Our best hope is league reconstruction with less onerous rules about ground capacity etc.

Ross County spent all summer getting their ground ready.

and save the club a fortune. As the Dunfermline Chairman said the worst thing that happened to them was winning promotion to the SPL. Now look at the state there in. Take Note!!!

Did they not use prefabricated seating for speed? In any case they had a plan. We don't appear to have prepared for promotion unless we're being kept in the dark. Temporary stands can be put up quickly including tent type roof but that's not the way we seem to be going. I'd like the club to let us know if they have a plan in place. that's not them being arrogant or presumptuous; it's just prudent planning for all eventualities.

Whilst the cost of going to the SPL for only 1 season was no doubt a factor there are far bigger problems at EEP than that, it's merely a convenient excuse to disguise the way the club has been run.

Correct. They've chased the corporate £s and paid inflated wages for years whilst over budgeting the anticipated crowds. Still think they are a big player, selling tickets for every game instead if cash gates, just a small example.

Do you know that we don't have a plan or that we have not already discussed the matter with the SPL?

Clearly he doesn't know, hence him saying he would like the club to tell us. Why ask such a stupid question?

No, I have no idea whether or not we have a plan but if we don't we damn well should have. Certainly we can't meet the 31/03 deadline as no work has commenced, and as I said I think you have to be in the process of upgrading to get an extension of time. I doubt that the rules have been relaxed in recent years, but the 31/03 deadline, and the possibility of an extension of time being granted at the discretion of the SPL, were in effect last time I looked which was several years ago.

As someone already said it's just plans that need submitted by then and I'd guess that the club have something there.

Edit to add - although the rules state a date of 31st March for seats they also say the board can 'grant a period of grace' which is effectively done on the basis of having plans in place by then as per the precedent set by Ross County.

Indeed. Getting to the SPL wasn't bad for Dunfermline, their board being utterly moronic and budgeting for an average crowd of 7000 (yes, that's seven thousand, seriously) was.

Are you absolutely sure about that? That's not my recollection of the rules.

The rules do say it has to be done by then but then go on to say its at the discretion of the board but like I said they have set a precedent by allowing Ross County to develop their stadium over the summer so that would need to be the case with us.

I heard from two different people that we are planning to ground share with the Midden. I don't know the truth in this or how 'In the know' these people are but, i'd really rather we didn't share with them.

TIME FOR CHANGE!

Just a question, If the so called league reconstruction goes ahead and they split into 3 groups of 8 half way through the season, why would it then be ok for SFL clubs To play SPL clubs, when their grounds are not up to SPL standard.

I seem to remember, a couple of seasons ago, the SPL saying that ground sharing would no longer be allowed as an option.

If the reconstruction goes ahead then the stadium requirements will be relaxed. So it's not actually entirely clear whether or not Cappielow will need to be upgraded (if we win promotion). This will be one of the reasons why Dougie Rae will be right behind the reconstruction plans.
