Ross County V Morton

All Scottish football games are OFF this Saturday due to the weather conditions.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Are you sure?

The news bulletin I just heard said that all SPL games were off but that Ross County were looking for volunteers to help clear the pitch.

Div has put it up on the SPL and the general consensus is that this will apply to the whole card. Dundee, for example, are no longer asking volunteers to clear their pitch.

Perhaps I should have gone with the standard journo "my sources indicate" disclaimer.

Ah.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Can't imagine any SFL ground will beat the weather.

Even if someone can get a pitch playable, which is not beyond the realms of possibility, as covers and a few inches of snow could perhaps prevent a ground frost, no doubt travel issues, ice around the grounds etc will make it more hassle than it's worth.

First Division Ross County have issued a plea to fans to help clear snow from the A9 as they attempt to get their game against Morton played this weekend.

A spokesperson at Dingwall said, “We are calling all willing and able Staggies to lend a hand as we look to clear the A9 of snow ahead of the clash with Morton. Anyone able to assist from now to Saturday is asked to contact the Club on 01349 860860 to have details to be taken.â€

your signature....takes you back to 1976.....go figure what?

I'm not getting the McGraw reference either. During McGraws time the RC was a reserve tournament, don't even remember it being on every year.

Up until 10 years ago the stats in the programme and on the Morton websites of the time still had us ahead, so if anything it's our recent record that's let us down.

Must check the soccerbase stuff - 71 St. Mirren wins seems odd. Maybe I've missed a League Cup section or something.

I've gone back to the dawn of Scottish Football (which only began with the Scottish Cup). I had always assumed that the skunks had the upper hand all the time. Really surprised to find that until the mid-80s, we had the upper hand and wondered what had happened to change it. The man who took over said that the derby and games against Clydebank were the most unpredictable - but I reckon that was smoke to cover our crap record in them since he was manager.

McGraw saw a total of 3 derby wins - all at Love Street (two in the same season). He also saw 11 St. Mirren wins.

Conversely, Billy Stark saw 4 wins in his short tenure, including the famous one.

Happy to discuss further, but this thread is about Ross County v Morton. Maybe a mod could create a thread and put the relevant posts there.

Edit - my error in the numbers. I've only done League games in the overall totals.

McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control...

That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

So they are cancelling it cos of the adverse weather conditions and have re-arranged it for Tuesday 14th, do they think the weather will be any better then as it is now? I doubt it! They would probably be better picking a date in March to re-arrange it!

or just accept that when you hear all scottish football - it is just some t*** that doesnot realise that life does not begin and end with the SPL

I prefer the SFL approach of take it on a game by game basis and see if they can get any games safely started. It may reach the same conclusion that all games are off, but at least some clubs who everybody was agreeing last weekend need the gate money are having a go at saving a saturday fixture.

Terry Butcher is right - the SPL have over reacted with a blanket decison.

Motherwell v Kilmarnock - SPL ground meant to have pitch protection, so no concenrns there. Ground is by main roads which are getting cleared.

I have driven over the A77/M77 each day this week - sure Monday was slow, but its been just as slow and 'dangerous' on some days in the summer with torrential rain. That just leaves the immediate area of the ground - surely motherwell could have cleared their own access areas?

As to the A9 - odds are high that on Saturday it will be busy with olk going to ski slopes. Safe enough for them to drive on but not for football teams?

Time to accept we play in cold crap conditions that turn up unpredictably - or change the season.

strange logic - the weather was nothing like this 12 days ago, and might be nothing like this 12 days from now; this is very severe weather for early December.

No doubt Ross County need the money as much as any other club does, so the SFL are quite right in giving them the chance to get the game played as soon as possible.

Absolute nonesense from start to finish. The SPL were 100% right to call off with no change in the weather expected it means that teams no longer have to scurry around for training facilities as urgently as they would if the games were going ahead; the supporters clubs can give plenty notice to their members & bus operators; the police are already stretched at this time of year with accidents, traffic control, etc; a good number of people can't get to work so what chance is there of them getting to the football.

If the game did go ahead, the crowd would probably be the same as it will be midweek as :

a) folk can't be bothered hanging around until the last minute to hear if it's on so make alternative plans;

B ) fans decide it's madness going to the game given the treacherous conditions

c) they can't get out their house / driveway.

Edit to add, what has the M77 got to do with Motherwell, their ground is accessed off the M74. Conditions throughout Lanrkshire have been horrendous. Also thousands of people don't all converge en masse at once at ski slopes.

The rules used to be that if a game was postponed, it didn't have to be played until something like March when occasionally there would be a vacant weekend. Crazy to have a game on 14th December. Nobody in their right mind would go to Dingwall on a Tuesday night in midwinter unless they already lived there. Total lack of consideration for the supporters of both teams not to mention the players, several of whom may well get eaten by polar bears.

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."
