Remembering Our Heroes

Recommended Posts

Having seen a thread on the General Football Board regarding wearing poppies on jerseys, I would like to know if Morton plan wearing them on the jersey on Saturday.

I feel this would be a fine gesture on our club's part to remember and pay tribute to the many fine men and women who lost their lives serving this fine country :) .

A bit impractical. How long would they last? And could you rely on some of their defenders not to stick the pins in Toto at corners?

You mean the ones who died fighting the Nazis, or the ones who took part in the illegal invasion of Iraq leading to the deaths of 100,000+ Iraqis, excluding those tortured to death?

Silly comment. Politicians decide what the forces do and the ordinary squaddie gets no choices in the matter - "Ours not to reason why, Our just to do and die!"

I am not condoning the Iraqi war but don't blame the forces for it!

Agreed. Lions led by donkeys and told what to do by self serving war criminals like Blair.

I cannot be bothered with this PSIH ! The wearing of poppies is to remember ordinary men and women who gave there lives doing what they were told to do in a time when there country was at war.

They did not have the luxury of choice or to deliberate the legalities , but they gave their life to make sure YOU DO !

Could you stand beside one of these men/women in battle staring death in the face and your pals dying all around you whether it be leagal or not ? I would doubt it !

So please keep your childish comments to yourself if you do not want to were a poppy in remembrance then do not !

Everyone needs to believe in something. I believe I'll have another Drink !

It was soldiers and not politicians who beat Baha Mousa to death. That was certainly not heroic, nor was it uncommon behaviour.

Nice gesture but given our finances it's a bit impractical to have a whole set of strips made for a one off occasion.

Observing the minutes silence is enough.

Along the track the train came puffin, Morton 1 Celtic nuffin.

These people will blow up a car ,bus, plane, train or even a dug and not give a s*** that you and your wife and weans are standing next to it !

There are 2 sides to every story and the gutteral press in this country only report the scandal with their own unique twist on it !

Erm, no they wouldn't! I don't get my info from the press, I get it from the public inquiry, from the judicial reviews, and from lawyers on both sides.

As for the topic I dont think Morton will due to costs but at this level a minutes silence will do.

Wow. I agree though, all of those soldiers merrily hopped, skipped and jumped into Iraq with absolutely no worries, started randomly murdering and torturing those innocent angels with a smile on their happy faces and a warm glow inside knowing that they'd left their loved ones back here worried sick about them. The swines.

I don't condone it but that sort of thing happens in every war and our troops, even those who should be arrested and punished for the sort of action you refer to, were put there by politicians.

Plus if one of your mates has just been killed or maimed by a bomber, people are on short fuses. That's not intended as an excuse just a very minor plea in mitigation!
