Defender To Sign

Indeed, but the bad publicity which is waiting is much more financially damaging.

Given that Lithgow looks a right good defender, I really struggle to see what publicity could cost us more than £5k. I also think that ~£5k isn't too much to pay for what would shape up to be our best defensive pairing for years, one which could serve us for a good few seasons.

Yeah, I completely agree. Absolutely mental. IF (and maybe it's a big if) the 'tele really were planning a front page on this, I think that's pretty shameful. The guy's past has been well enough publicised - it's clear that the Morton support and staff know about it, it's not as if they're uncovering anything. I could understand an opinion piece, or something like that, and would have no problem with it being highly critical of the signing (even if I'd disagree with it).

I totally agree with you guys, but certain supporters, rightly or wrongly, have instigated a campaign to have the Telegraph run a potentially damaging story.

Would be surprised if the tele took a 'littlejohn' stance really. More likely to be a reflective piece highlighting the differing views of the signing (as seen on here) or something like that. Cant see them 'overlooking' the story though. it's a bit too juicy. :(

The Tele have shown over the past couple of years to be sticklers for a moral outrage crusade and I'd guess the head honchos would burn every bridge people have worked hard to build with the club, just for their brief moment of self-congratulatory mouthpiecing.

And another crack at 'campaign newspaper of the year'. <_>

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

As an avid reader who never misses an issue (ma maw passes them to me when she's done) I would never look at a second hand copy ever again, if they burned Lithgow.

But I seriously doubt they would.

Just to add: Your initial post makes me think that Lithgow wont be signing anyway. <_>

If that's the case (big if), I wonder how pissed off Moore is that the club bottled it after letting him think it was a possibility?

Along the track the train came puffin, Morton 1 Celtic nuffin.

No prizes for guessing who those moral crusuaders are then!!

Pleased to see Moore's bringing another centre half. Hes doing the right thing by making us difficult to beat, too many daft goals scored against us last season. Would like to see Lithgow signed, with Greacen being offloaded, the big guys been a good servant but is becoming a liability on the pitch.

If we're solid at the back, and have a good hard working and footballing midfield we will do well this season

Anyone heard anything about Greacen leaving ?

I read somewhere that he was injured but nothing about him leaving.

And for that I can't see the sun

It would seem that some people are looking at Greacen's absence due to injury and the club looking to sign another defender, putitng them together and coming up with some absurd notion that it's proof that he's getting punted.

Fact of the matter is, we only have Greacen and Smyth as recognised centre-halfs on permanent deals. I'd suggest there's no more to this than meets the eye.

If Moore wants the defence to pass the ball around then Greacen isn't particularly suited to that style. I think this season will be his last at the club, whether he leaves now or by the end of May.

Both Greacen and Graham were at the game last night with suits on.

Moore has apparently told all the players that they must report 'suited and booted' for all home games. Most professional in my view. :)

Possibly, but I'd like to see him getting a chance. There's no doubt he was awful guilty for going long all the time, but in a properly structured team that's offering 3 or 4 good options to the defender on the ball perhaps he would fare much better, especially with a better level of coaching geared towards a passing game.

Hopefully Greacen can get fit soon, as we really do need the extra option at centre-back.

I think Allan Moore (on Sunday) is the first Morton manager I have seen wearing a suit and tie at a game. I certainly don't remember Grady, Irons or McInally doing so!

McCormack wasn't one for wearing suits at games either. Although it doesn't really matter what they're wearing, it just looks a bit more professional if they're suited up.

I think the last time I remember seeing a Morton manager suited up was Billy Stark.
