Gordo would have had to go in any case. This probably gives the LibLab coalition more of a fighting chance. Clegg didn't want GB as PM in any coalition. One minute it looks like the Tories and Lib Dem are about to get in bed together, now this. I think Labour are offering the Lib Dems everything but the kitchen sink in a desperate attempt to stay in power.
Scott_Gillan
I dont want the tories in but the fact thwey got the most votes I find it a bit strange that the lib dems are able to decide who becomes PM .. Democracy in action eh?

I think Labour are offering the Lib Dems everything but the kitchen sink in a desperate attempt to stay in power. Predictable. First the Tories get to woo the Lib Dems, now it's Labour's turn - provided Brown agrees to fall on his sword. It's like a girl weighing up which of two possible boyfriends will keep her in the style she wants to become accustomed to. Faintly pathetic, really, from all concerned. Whoever they get into bed with, we'll probably have to do it all over again in a few months from now. "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right......." They got by far the most seat in the election , What right does the Lib Dems to shape poolicy and demand things when they were clearly rejected by the public ? Democracy in action eh? It would be a permanent feature under any PR system. but what was the point in brown representing labour in prime ministerial debate if someone like milliband could end up pm We don't vote for a pm, we vote for a party and the party in govt decides who the pm is. Probably better to call it a Party Leaders' debate. "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences."The goal of Socialism is Communism- Lenin Je ne suis pas Marxiste : K Marx
maccaboy
but what was the point in brown representing labour in prime ministerial debate if someone like milliband could end up pm the point is that if Labour had won the election Brown would have continued as leader. Had Labour won we'd probably have seen Cameron stand down before long. But here we are with Clegg, whose party came a far-distant third, playing the role of Kingmaker. It's a funny old world, innit? chrissiboi
Why can other countries seem to be able to go into coalitions and turn the whole thing into a farce of deals behind closed doors. I can see it all going tits up, glad despite the financial chaos we can still get our priorities all wrong.

This may be true but let's not pretend it's not a major factor when voting, it's essentially choosing the PM by proxy.
