vikingTON Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 The useless clowns at Network Rail are ripping up the Lochwinnoch line and starting all over again, a replacement bus is on between Lochwinnoch and Irvine. http://www.scotrail.co.uk/sites/files/1031...ochwinnoch2.pdf The alternative is going Glasgow-Kilmarnock, where there's a service to Ayr at roughly half 12 and half 1. 1810, 2018, 2106 the return. It'll probably be game off anyway. The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
The Naitch Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 If the game goes ahead I think the replacement bus to Irvine, then train to Newton-on-Ayr looks like the best option. Will need to leave a bit earlier, though, as those replacement bus services are bad at the best of times. "To be the man, you gotta beat the man"

stuart Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I don't know, we have had a really sharp frost down here the last few nights, hopefully the slightly stronger sun is thawing the pitch out during the day but I would say the game is by no means 99% on. Not looked at a weather forecast for the next couple of days though.
ThornTON Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Alternative is to take Stagecoach bus 585 from Greenock to Newton-on-Ayr - takes about 2 hours, runs every half hour. That's the way I'll be getting there, much handier than the train as no need to switch at Kilwinning (obviously not an issue with getting the direct train from Glasgow/Paisley). If you're not wanting to go boozing before the game then the bus that leaves W. Stewart St. at 12.35 gets to Newton in plenty of time (got about 20/25 mins for a 5/10 min walk)
stuart Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 WHat pub do people go drinking in before the games in Ayr?
ThornTON Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 WHat pub do people go drinking in before the games in Ayr? Before I gave it up, the bowling club opposite the ground most of the time. For the town, the local costume shops don't tend to stock orange order outfits any more, so that's out.
stuart Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 A few of us down here usually go to an old man pub that sells real ale, can't remember its name. I know a few Ayr fans that go there and it is average. True story. Will maybe try the bowling club.
Satans Husband Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 How long does it take to hoof it from the bus station to the ground? Of course I'm happy
ThornTON Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 10, 15 mins. Probably closer to 15. It's ten minutes top (really about 6-7) from Newton, been that way three times this season. To make it from the bus station in 15 you'd need to run at full pelt, and know where you were going!
Satans Husband Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Just checked it out on a map and I reckon 15 minutes is a reasonable estimate. It's no further than Ayr Station and that's an, albeit brisk, 15 minute walk. I might just hire one of those party limos instead. Is the tartan one more expensive than the others? Of course I'm happy

Will need to leave a bit earlier, though, as those replacement bus services are bad at the best of times. That's my plan, going into Glasgow early anyway to go to the record fair at the Royal Concert Hall.

Flyerton Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 You can also get a McGills bus to Largs and then a train to Ayr (direct)
Rampage Nu Sport Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 You can also get a McGills bus to Largs and then a train to Ayr (direct) Well not quite direct - think you'll have to change trains in Kilwinning - haven't checked how the connections work.
The Naitch Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Decided just to get the bus down for this one ... the No.4 leaves Buchanan Bus Station every 30 minutes and won't take much longer than it would to get the train and replacement bus service from First. "To be the man, you gotta beat the man"

Went to another bowling club earlier in the season with vikingTon and my son, but it was empty.
Flyerton Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Well not quite direct - think you'll have to change trains in Kilwinning - haven't checked how the connections work. They are running a direct service this Saturday only, possibly to do with works at Lochwinnoch. After Saturday you change at Kilwinning again.
