Stevie Aitken's Love Child
Alright folks, looks like the washine machine has gone on the blink. Put on a wash this afternoon and went out for a few hours, and when I went to hang it at the back of 4, the load had some black marks all over it, and on close inspection it seems that the drum has come out of position as it's moving about a lot. Anyone got any idea if that's going to be expensive to repair, or even better if there are any washing machine repair people around that could give me some advice. Thanks. Did you overload the thing mate ? I did once before, some clothes obviously rubbing against the seal which then ripped, causing drum to come loose. Clothes had black marks on them then too. You may strike it lucky and only have to replace the rubber seal. Christianity: One woman's lie about having an affair that got seriously out of hand. When I look at it again, I notice that the drum has come away from the rubber seal, so what you say may not be far away. How did you get yours fixed? Is the drum still turning. Perhaps the belt has shredded. The drum is turning yes. Took the back off already and belt still looks intact so I don't think that's the reason. Stevie Aitken's Love Child
I think one of the flexible mountings may have failed. Yeah I've read about that on a forum that I found. I've no idea how I would replace it, so looks like I'll be calling a repair man. Guy came along, replaced seal reconnected to drum. I only do computers. I was hoping to open a ticket as well Do have this guy's number by any chance? And what did you pay for the repairs?

Alibi
The black marks on the clothes are probably grease from one of the bearings at the rear of the drum. Sounds as if the bearing is breaking up and/or the bearing seal has gone, allowing the grease to get into the drum. I had the same problem once (on a Hoover washing machine) and I think it is fixable but needs the drum to come out. Not really a DIY job although it is possible - if dismantling, label all wires and connections so that you know where they should be connected to, because otherwise you're really in bother. Best to call in an expert but get a quote first as the cost of repair might be more than the cost of a new washing machine and if it's fairly old you might end up with other things going wrong - door seals don't seem to last long these days. In fact most stuff can't be repaired economically any more as there are so many electronic components in everything. Used to be able to fix most appliances with a screwdriver and a couple of spanners. Stevie Aitken's Love Child
Right it's gubbed. Spoke to a guy from the number given by Loyal Lass, he said it sounds like, as Alibi suggested above, that the bearings have gone, and if that's the case, it's about £120 to repair, and it doesn't guarantee that it will last very long afterwards. So, looks like a new waching machine then. Great timing after just buying a car and booking a holiday

Yep I think it will need to be a second hand effort in the meantime as I don't have a couple of hundred quid lying around right now to buy a new machine. Anyone know of any 2nd washing machines for sale

Anyone know of any 2nd washing machines for sale There are several shops in Glasgow which do reconditioned machines. I'd imagine somebody in Inverclyde will do the same. Sometimes they'll give you some kind of guarantee (e.g. they'll take it back if anything goes wrong within a month). Or of course you could buy from a private seller. Also the Ardgowan Hospice have a new place at the back of the fire station that sells reconditioned white goods and furniture, or the Haven at the top of Princes St in the Port do it too!! Could work out well - a few bob to charity, and solving your problem as well!!

I seem to recall another place in the Port also (The Light Trust?) that sounds similar to the Haven place also. The place in Lynedoch Street (Orr's as I seem to remember), not sure if that is still there as I'm very rarely down Lynedoch Street way these days.
