Player Of The Decade?

Got to be Peter Weatherson, who has been played at the back and up front, weighed in with a lot of goals and remains the best all-round footballer at the club by a distance.

Chris Millar deserves an honorable mention too. Aside from the fact he lifted two titles, I felt he continually improved throughout his time at the club and used to cringe at some of the unfair stick that went his way. Thought McInnes would bring his game on and it's pleasing to see him flourishing at St J's. Just watched his three assists at the weekend on the highlights and looks like he's on top of his game. He's gone on and maybe made a few people change their mind, in a similar manner to the way Hagi did.

Jim deserves a mention for the remarkable number of appearances he's clocked up and his appetite for hard work. His overall contribution and commitment since he emerged as a regular in 2004 should not just go out of the window because of a couple of indifferent seasons.

It surely has to be Weatherson, regardless of his faults. I'm still baffled as to how he never won the 2nd Division Player of the Year award in 2007. As vikingTON has pointed out, many others have fallen by the wayside whilst he's continually scored goals- and not one striker has gone on to play at a higher level consistenttly, only McGowan has had fleeting SPL and European appearances for Celtic and Hamilton.

Honourable mention though for Harry Curran- one of my all time favourite Morton players who carried an incredibly poor side through dark days. His late equaliser at Somerset Park in 2000 was one of my favourite memories.

Might also be worth thinking though, where Morton would be now were it not for Warren Hawke's goals against Elgin at Cappielow and East Fife at New Bayview in consecutive weeks towards the end of season 2002/03.

It's a very vague question - what qualities are being looked for?

Big Stu surely deserves an honourable mention for hard graft and dedication.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then they pretend to befriend you, then you win!

Peter Weatherson

David mcgregor

Stewart greacen

I would say peter has been the most influential but have to mention David as he has been at club for so long and no matter his ability he gives his all for the club.

yes calton but you forget he is not very good

Its true that he is not very good anymore, infact hes a complete liability due to his pace, but when we were in the 3rd he was our best player by a mile.

I want a pretentious signature too.

eh incorrect. when he got injured we went on to keep 5 straight clean sheets and win the league!

edit to add . there were far greater perfomers that year such as alex w, john m and derek c

Fair enough, the best player by miles comment was a bit ott. He still had a very good season that year, and the fact that he broke his leg doesnt really change that fact at all.

Basically hes not always been rotten.

I want a pretentious signature too.

hes probably doing the best, great performance last week topped off with a goal and a new contract to boot

Millar had decent ability, but during his time at Morton the whole midfield tended to be small and lightweight. I always found it frustrating watching us being bullied by opposing teams... and Millar was one of the worst for that.

Ironically, he'd probably do much better if he was at Morton now, as we have plenty of big guys in the middle of the park for the physical stuff, but very little creativity.

Maybe unfair, but going back to the best player of the 90's, in my opinion Lindberg, there is a gulf in class between Lindberg and Millar. In fact Millar would have been lucky to get a game for the team Lindberg featured in. (Lindberg, Rajamaki, McInnes, Mahood all well ahead)

Correct me if im wrong but the 90s have nothing to do with the last decade

That's why I said going back to the 90's. Was comparing our best player of the 90's to a suggested best player of the last decade...
