ThornTON
well why dont you tell us? Why should I repeat what someone has told me, especially as it may be sensitive or implicate others? Madton
Surely the sign of an effective winger are pace, ability to beat a man, crossing ability and a decent scoring record. Ther first two attributes are required for the build up to make the end products of the next two attributes possible. I'm afraid our two regular wingers fall quite short of what's required. For me the finishing cross or shot on target is the real sign of a good winger. If you look at some of the better examples, McGeady, Maloney etc. at the moment or Johnstone, Best etc. in the past, they all had a great end product. Even the best Morton wingers, McNeill, Tolmie, McNab, Rajamaki and more recently Andy McLaren could all cross and finish. The scoring records of our current wingers make grim reading: McAlister: 18 goals in 238 starts, around 3 goals per season Finlayson: 5 goals in 126 starts, around 1 goal per season I admire the work rate of both players, but really don't think the above return is good enough and is a possible clue to the composure and ability of the players. Finlaysons stats are interesting considering at Stranraer, it was 26 goals in 130 games.

Didn't they used to play him as a striker sometimes though? I spit in the face of people who don't want to be cool!

Dream Oak Tree
Finlaysons stats are interesting considering at Stranraer, it was 26 goals in 130 games. Maybe that backs up irnbru's point that Finlayson hasn't often been used by Morton in a purely attacking sense, mainly as a wing back or tracking back a lot of the time. I think Stranraer played him mostly or always as an orthordox winger. When you think his nickname there was SuperKev then maybe irnbru's not far off the mark. His nickname here is Kurányi, or at least it said that in the programme once... A Scottish winger named after a very average German/Brazilian/Hungarian/Panamanian striker with ridiculous beard... aside from having the same first name I can think of no reason why! The Bewilderedbeast
I know I may well be slated here for "jumping on the bandwagon", but about a week after Shimmin's "injury" I was told he'd be unlikely ever to appear in a Morton shirt again, something I didn't (or probably didn't want to) believe at the time. However as time passed it was clear that information was correct. I hoped that once Irons had gone things may have changed, obviously not! As others have said, what a waste of talent and if we can get rid ASAP all the better
Cowshed Chris
I can only go on what he told me, but I can't see that being the reason... By the sounds of things, he's told various people various things so I can't see why you'd have heard anything closer to the truth than anyone else. He won't play for us again, for whatever reason. Mr H Palms
mcallister and finlayson are being touted on here as wingers. Theres not many out and out wingers in football these days. They play wide left and right in a 4-4-2 so that makes them left and right midfielders who.s job is to attack and put crosses in, but also to track back and help out the defence. dont forget they have a man to mark as well. sigs are for fuds

It's true there's not the same quantity or quality of orthodox wingers around, but if so what is their equivalent at other clubs? Do they play the same position as McGeady, Maloney, Novo, Riordan, Gavin Swankie, Chris Millar, Jim O'Brien etc.? If so how do they compare in terms of delivery or finish? Mr.Blue
Surely shimmin is in breach of his contract if he is fit and not playing? If so he should be released and his wages could be used elsewhere There's a storm on the horizon And for that I can't see the sun For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement For the ice cream van to come

ThornTON
Yeah, but apparently he's not "fit", he's "injured". He isn't injured, he's just overweight. Grady said so himself today, although Rae said 'pigs will fly' before you seen him playing for the club again.

Grady said so himself today, although Rae said 'pigs will fly' before you seen him playing for the club again. Rae effectively overruled Grady on that one after the game, and I thought he was out of order to so do. McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie. jimmy boag delivers
Rae effectively overruled Grady on that one after the game, and I thought he was out of order to so do. It was a slighlty uncomfortable moment and Grady was staring hard at the floor when Rae made the comment. I'm not sure if Grady was being over-ruled or whether it was simply a frustrated Chairman being overly flippant (not the first time!).
