Wee Dublin End
I know we are in the worst recession since the depression of the 1930's, and that many of us won't be able to afford to go away anywhere this year. if you are fortunate enough to have a wee break then where are you going to ? i'm off for a month to Thailand in October, time will be split by spending time with the wifes family and a holiday for us both on koh Samui. i am particularly looking forward to going back to Samui, might get some diving done. Will be good for the wife to get back home to see her mum and dad and rest of the family. Cannae wait. what about you ?

MrX
I had a four month holiday in Afghanistan already this year, so doubt I'll be getting away againthis year. I had great weather, lovely food and fireworks almost every night..... too many bloody English there for my liking though. TonInDublin
Heading to the West Of Ireland next week with my two kids for a week. Staying in Lisdoonvarna, plan to do surfing, lot of other water sports type stuff, Bunratty Castle, there's a waterworld and small aquarium in Lahinch, visit the Cliffs Of Moher, The Burren, The Ailwee Caves, lots of brilliant seafood restaurants and miles and miles of beaches. Stop off in Galway at Morans On The Weir on the way down and on the way back, plan a few trad sessions in Milltown Malby, and generally enjoying all that Counties Clare and Galway have to offer. Here's hoping for weather ! Promised I'd take them on a city break later in the year, probably September - probably hit Barcelona or Madrid, maybe Paris, although I have a soft spot for Nuremburg. MrX
Nice one, ive booked up there for next year I got down to Lashkar Gah, which is generally considered the jewel in the Helmand Province crown. Nestling on the beautiful east bank of the Helmand Riviera, Lashkar Gah is only a 5 minute chinook ride away from the vibrant, bustling market areas of Marjah and Nad E Ali. Highly recommended resort though not ATOL protected. Where are you jetting off to yourself? TonInDublin
Next to no time off. Going to Oslo for the game next month and thats about it this year. I know I should google this but when is the game - might be able to get a cheap flight from Dublin - could be a plan for a bit of a session if it works out. Try and get a ticket over there, and if I don;t sure I can have a few pints and watch it on the box in a local establishment TonInDublin Two Uniteds but the soul is one, as the Busby Babes carry on. TonInDublin Barca & Madrid are beautiful, Madrid has the better galleries if that's your thang. Barca is utterly vibrant with a sh1t load of must see places. Paris is wonderful. Nuremburg? Going for a wee rally? Just back from Berlin. Great city, great food in the cafes and lovely walks, "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. TonInDublin
Nuremburg? Going for a wee rally? Went there for a course in work for a week in the nineties and it was fabulous ! Although our host got an earful when he said to the three of us "Yes we had to rebuild part of the castle and city walls because of the indescriminate British bombing of the city". One of the guys I was with (alright Biffa !) went fucking apeshit !!!!! "Whit aboot Clydebank, whit aboot Greenock ya German prick - it was you wankers that started it" Superb, cringingly embarassing, but superb ! Cet Homme Charmant
For somewhere a wee bit different for a city break I'd highly recommend Lyon. Really beautiful city, unbelievable restaurants and if you want it, great nightlife. Also tons to see and do during the day. And best of all, not a British hen or stag part in sight.
