The UK is skint, Iceland is skint so have another cod war, let the fish fight while the respective governments rake in global aid. Although it's my idea, I oppose war in general so join my movement. cowshed_warrior
why does the word 'argies' seem to be acceptable.. but '*racial slur removed*' isnt... whats the ****ing difference.... even now on tv when programmes repeat the glorious victory in the falklands thay use that word.. argies... is it ok to cut some words short and not others.. or are all argies .. white ?? There are some questions that are too important, some truths too powerful, some messages too liberating, that they can never be heard for fear they might actually provide you with the freedom you desire and that 'they' then lose the dependence you have on them and for which they are rewarded. Cet Homme Charmant
why does the word 'argies' seem to be acceptable.. but '*racial slur removed*' isnt... whats the ****ing difference.... ? I don't think it's the words themselves that determine if they're acceptable or not, but rather the intent behind them. So I think the difference between and acceptable and unacceptable really depends on whether it's meant to be derogatory or not. For example I wouldn't consider 'Aussie' to be unacceptable because it's rarely if ever used with insulting, derogatory or offensive intent. But terms like 'Argie', 'I-tie', 'Japs' and most certainly 'P aki' often or even usually are. So for that reason I personally wouldn't use them. You're missing the point. I'm not saying that using these terms are always meant to be offensive, but they often are. So if you use them 'innocently' then you leave yourself open to possible misinterpretation of your intent. So for that reason I prefer not to use them. And I would definately disagree that 'P aki' is used more to refer to shops rather than the person, but that's by the by.

Calling a negro "black" is fine.. add the word "****" to it and then you have a problem. Never really got the whole racism thing mind you... I mean how on earth can you hate someone because of their nationality or colour of skin?... doesn't make sense to me. edit: mods, why was the "b" word removed above, when it is a perfectly acceptable word for an illegitimate child? Alibi
The arguments over the sovereignty of the Falkalnds is rearing its head again because it has been established that there are significant oil reserves in the Falklands basin. That's what it's really about. "Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it." Rossi
Having wasted four months of my life in the Falkland Islands I'm very much of the opinion that they should belong to the Argentinians.
