Colkitto
Brilliant, another square-heided small-minded Patriot. Was Mason not the guy who suggested that we start naming streets after William Wallace and Robert the Bruce when speaking out against naming one after Donald Dewar? What happens if you don't get a result on this 2010 Referendum then? Does Scotland turn into another Quebec, where we're having an independence referendum every other year? I'm not asking this to point score for "The Union", I genuinely want to hear SNP supporters opinion. For the record, Curran and Mason were both crappy candidates and I'll admit that Labour is a dead horse, but I still don't like the SNP. I'll start off by saying I believe we would win a YES vote if a referendum was held in 2010. Salmond is on record as saying IF it returned a NO vote then the referendum would be put to bed for a generation. I don't agree with him on that one though. IF a NO vote was returned I would be campaigning for another referendum ASAP. Don't blame me I voted Yes!!!! - We tried to tell you !!!!!

Guest GibbyTON
No matter your views on the SNP, no one can deny that this victory looks like the start of a trend happening across the country. Freedom is just around the corner Wrong! this victory just rubber stamps the trend. Pish to reform the highland regiments and march on engerland.. ok... now if you dont want an independant Scotland then f*** off to Engerland and live. Scottish Regiments you mean, anyway, will never happen no matter who's runs the country FREEDOM Fantasy

But this all depends on what the vote will consist of as I am sure Labour and the Libe Dems (who) will demand the inclusion of a more powers option which will make the vote irrelevant imo. The vote should not include an option for this and should just consist of the YES or NO choice. If it is a straight uncomplicated vote then the will of the majority should be recognised and accepted. Scotland will return a YES vote, I'm confident of that. I personally don't think if Scotland returned a NO vote then it gets buried for a decade. If the SNP had it in their manifesto to carry out another referendum in a new term of office, and the people voted them back in, then we go for it again ! Tom_McB
Oh dear, Tom, you just don't get it, do you? Yes, it's "only" a by-election. Nevertheless, it still indicates that the SNP is continuing to gain ground - and also, once bars are raised in terms of achievemnt, they don't tend to get lowered again. The SNP has shown it CAN win in Labour's backyard and the very fact of doing so will mean that next time more people will realise that they can win again and again, so the Labour "wasted vote if you vote SNP" tactic is totally useless now. The more the SNP advance, the more they gain momentum and credibility. One thing for sure, Labour are not going to have a good resut at the next UK general election. Oh Dear Alibi, you're a condescending chap are you not. Ach but you're a happy man today so I'll not take umbrage. Bars don't get lowered, I refer you to the two spectacular govan wins for the SNP. Bars don't get lowered, I refer you to the 1950 general election where the Tories gained 44.8% of the popular vote in Scotland. Clicky. The votes for parties go up and down, parties gain and lose popularity. "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. Colkitto
Ah so it's a neverendum you'll be wanting. As I said Tom, I believe we will win a referendum first time round. Although it's not SNP policy, I would want a referedum till we get one that gives us a YES vote. If we have to have one every session of a new parliament, then so be it ! Other opposition parties have not. I said a long time ago, Scotland didn't have room for 4 main political parties. I thought it would have been the Tories to sink into oblivion. But it looks like it will be the Fib-Dems (they even lost their deposit last night). They blew it big time not going into coalition with the SNP. They can still do it, but it will be on SNP terms, and that means supporting a referendum Bill in parliament. Otherwise it's night night Fib-Dems at the next election ! mortonjag
Brown is a weasel. As I have said before, I detest him more than I do Thatcher ! All politicians are weasels Spurtle-you'll have to qualify the noun for proper effect. F*ckin' weasel is emphatic but not pictorially apt. Wicked weasel alliterates nicely but seems rather mild. It's quite difficult really when they are all weasels. Why not call him a serpent among weasels-that sounds just about right?
