simple_ton
I always though Murray Mcdermott was a great keeper - although I can only recall him playing for one season, I think it was a year in which we won promotion and I remember several games where his saves gave us the points. Roy Baines was in goal when I first started going to Cappielow - i can still remember the high pitched cries of "hold" - think the "singer" Mika has built an act based on Roy Baines.. Guest Eric M.
Roy Baines followed by "the man in black" Erik Sorensen. Both had two spells for us and were top keepers. Roy edges it for me as he was more consistent but I remember as a kid standing behind the goal at the Sinclair Street end when Sorensen faced up to penalties. More often than not he saved them. gorkir
Also remebering the day he put the ball on the corner spot for Provan to cross over while he was getting back into his goal area he gave the ball to davy cooper who took the kick while he was running back to his goal and rangers scored
gorkir
Leif Neilson for me Baines, Sorenson, Russell and Crawford were all very good keepers
gorkir
It wasn't Provan, it was Alex McDonald as said before it was davy cooper
HMS Willow
Roy Baines for me - fantastic keeper Ditto. My kids also go to a school of the same name Some sing of Celtic, Rangers And some of Motherwell Of Hibs and Partick Thistle And other teams as well But of all the famous football teams There’s one that they’ve forgotten With a Ra Ra Ra and a Cha Cha Cha IT’S THE FAMOUS GREENOCK MORTON

Colkitto
as said before it was davy cooper 100% certain it was McDonald mate. Don't blame me I voted Yes!!!! - We tried to tell you !!!!!
Guest David Edwards
Sorensen was the best I saw, closely followed by Baines, though my favourite was Davie Wylie.
AyrshireTon
Roy Baines. McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie. standman
Goalie called Robin Turner, he made his debut in the same game as Jimmy Boag (who scored), I think it was a friendly against Cowdenbeath we won 6-1.He made a great save during the match putting a 30 yard shot over the bar. Didnt get too many starts under McGraw as Wylie was always 1st choice. Would walk into the team now though. Didn't he get injured in 86/87 whilst filling in for Wylie ? I don't remember him after thatat Cappielow. Let's rock !
standman
When I first started going to games we had the same sub keeper for two or three years who never got close to a game I saw with Wylie ahead of him. Think it was Paul Graham (correct me if I'm wrong). Did he EVER play for us? Where did he come from and go to? Funny you should mention him. I have a programme somewhere where his pen pic described him as having the toughest job in football - being number two goalie behind Wylie. I remember him in end of season encounters and in particular at Annfield where Morton lost 4-2 Let's rock !
gorkir
100% certain it was McDonald mate. sorry it was Cooper Rangers scored a second in 70 minutes, another punt up-field put the Morton defence under pressure, the ball came off Orr and was heading for a corner, Brcic tried to stop the ball, he failed and showed his inexperience by throwing the ball to Cooper who quickly took the kick as the keeper ran back to goal and despite Brcic getting his hand to the ball it broke to Watson who slammed the ball into the unguarded net. RSC
For obvious reasons havn't seen many recent 'keepers (been away since '68) But prior to that Eric Sorensen stood out by miles, he commanded his area and gave anyone absolute sh.t who got in his way, he was wide and powerfully built, very agile and liked to entertain the crowd with his agility who quite frankly was better than Morton. The only 'keeper who I'd say beats him in recent years would have been Peter Schmichael - Yep, he was that good.
ayrstorm
baines, Connaghan, then brcic for me all in their own way made sure the guys in front knew what they were to do - and when they had not done it! being a youngster in those days, I always thought Connaghan looked like he should have had a oxygen bottle in the nets, not a towel or anything else - but looks deceptive and he was agile. Dr Zhivago
David Wylie would be my choice. Wasn't perfect, but was a very good shot stopper. Robinson doesn't even look like a keeper, I'd always pick McGurn ahead of him, although neither inspire confidence.
HMS Willow
Roy Baines. I don't remember that guy beside Baines ever playing in goal Some sing of Celtic, Rangers And some of Motherwell Of Hibs and Partick Thistle And other teams as well But of all the famous football teams There’s one that they’ve forgotten With a Ra Ra Ra and a Cha Cha Cha IT’S THE FAMOUS GREENOCK MORTON
AJCTON
dave brcic was a superb keeper and during his time with us had everything, wylie was also a tremendous keeper although he was terrible when it came to kicking the ball but made up for that with his shot stopping and his reactions. really felt sorry for him when he turned up against us for clyde and we put a barrow load by him. Baines however was a different keeper from both he had brilliant reactions and he could kick a ball, he should have went further than he did but playing for morton hindered him as i have no doubt he could have played at a much higher level. baines, baines, baines no brainer. I have no compunction in saying that if some chap starts throwing grenades or starts using pistols, we shall kill him
ton1
Anyone mind Dave Brcic the American guy who came to Cappielow in the 80's for a while. Great goalie who made his debut up at Aberdeen and saved a penalty. When you think back to some of our old goalies like Roy Baines, Dennis Connaghan, Jimmy Cowan and Wylie to name a few, we've had some cracking goalies. Roy Baines was my era and still think to this date he was brilliant. Brcic won I Brcic won, I believe sportswriters player of year whilst with us,great shotstopper, BAines was most consistent
NewTon
Eric Sorenson, by a country mile. Although I never saw Cowan ditto
