European Football Benchmarking Report

This should certainly prove an instructive rebuttal to the 'too wee, too poor' blusterers that are found across Scottish football: from its managers and media pundits to gormless mouthpieces like Ed de Ball.

Even with the hilarious death of Rangers (and near death experience of Hearts, until their fans actually saved the club) having a net impact on revenue at the top end of Scottish football, the Scottish domestic league had the 14th largest revenue within UEFA (p. 57). Scottish clubs also enjoyed the joint 12th largest share of revenue from TV broadcasting, per club, across UEFA (p. 64). Scottish clubs, by comparison, were ranked 23rd in performance across UEFA at the end of the 2016/17 campaign:

Scottish top flight clubs get five times more money per spectator at the gate than in the Czech Republic (p. 71). The Scottish top flight as a whole enjoys three times as much revenue per season than their counterparts in the Czech Republic (p. 59): Czech teams were however ranked 11th across UEFA in 2016/17, twelve places higher than Scottish clubs.

A comparative lack of quality within Scottish football is therefore not being caused by a shortage of cash - the issue is that the vast majority of Scottish clubs lack any sort of nous or imagination in the transfer market. They spunk their money on third-rate and expensive players from the English lower leagues, as well as a job lot of ringers sent over from the continent by their agents. The revenue tables provided on pages 78 and 79 set out the European leagues that Scottish clubs should in fact be scouting to make bets use of their riches, as well as the Scottish league's status as an easy stepping stone to a career in England. This would lead to a higher standard of football in Scotland, better performances in European competition (if that matters according to taste) and more genuine assets for Scottish clubs to sell on to larger markets for a healthy profit.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
