Morton Club Together Updates

According to today's Tele the MCT payment will allow Hopkin to bring in two additional players during this window if he chooses to.

I'm sure Livingston will be delighted at receiving an actual transfer fee again for another batch of totally useless haddies.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

He should have the funds to bring in 2 new players regardless. Is he seriously saying that wouldn’t be happening without the MCT money?

Where else would it come from if he’s spent his budget?

If our entire budget has been spent on the squad we have at the minute then something is very wrong.

Excluding Blues, but including Strapp, Lyon, and Sutton, I count 17 full-time "adult" players in the squad. (I assume Strapp and Lyon are on "proper" contracts now.) If that's as far as the budget goes, I can't say I'm altogether shocked, but with older players and at least two injury-prone ones - as well as Sutton hinting that he's not going to play the whole season - you are really asking for trouble if that's the limit of your budget, because once absences and suspensions set in, you're unable to compete (c.f. our back line on Saturday.)

MCT's money really could make the difference this season, assuming it's spent wisely. Without that, Golden Casket would be consigning us to a real struggle (for which we're not allowed to criticize them, because their dad died and nobody could have seen that coming.)

Little sign of that happening. As it stands, this summer's been a total shambles that every other manager over the last decade would have been rightfully slaughtered for.

Ah, sorry I get you now. I read it as additional to what we have budget for rather than to the number of players we have.

It is a source of concern, for sure. We've definitely done some good business, most notably Nesbitt and Cadden, but the defensive frailties are plain to see even from highlights.

With a "decent" goalkeeper we would still have lost 3 probably all 4 goals on Saturday.

An Injury free CB (Sorry Peter Grant) a LB and a first choice RB is higher up the priority list in my opinion.

Sorry Chesh I still believe that confidence in the goalkeeper is essential for the defenders to play their normal game. Any defensive units that have been praised in the past have always had a solid keeper behind them, as the successful unit by necessity includes a strong goalkeeper who instils confidence in the defenders in front of him. At no time in football history has a defensive unit been held in high esteem when they’ve had an error prone goalkeeper behind them. I played in defence myself, albeit at amateur level, into my forties, with many goalkeepers, and I can say that a shaky goalkeeper behind me also made me shaky, and conversely a solid keeper such as Jim Marner or Neil Mooney behind me made me much more assured. So I say use the MCT funds to bring in a solid goalkeeper.

Ramsbottom evidently isn’t good enough, but it’s maybe just a wee bit of a stretch to blame him for Van Schaik not being able to tackle, head a ball, track a run, position himself correctly or indeed display any positive attributes you’d expect from a professional footballer.

Such insight, such intelligence....

Naw just stating the bleeding obvious that anyone who has watched football never mind "amateur into your 40s".

Good grief.

I pray that Dream Oak Tree is actually Alan Partridge Ton quoting his geordie garage attendant pal.

Try telling it's obvious to VT and others who don't seem to get that point, hence why I've rambled on about it.

world-class point-getter

Mate, everyone agrees Ramsbottom is crap, and no doubt having him behind you certainly doesn't help, but it can't explain away things like Ayr's fourth goal. There is absolutely no way that Van Schaik played that the way he did because he was worried about the 'keeper. He played it that way because he's also a bad footballer who's out of his depth.

In an ideal world we'd replace both of them immediately, but there is no way that replacing just the 'keeper is going to result in Van Schaik suddenly becoming good.

My opinion is tempered slightly by the fact that, at first, I thought Ricki Lamie was a terrible player, and of course he went on to be a very solid performer for us and is now a fairly regular player in the top flight. In mitigation for my being wrong, he was being played out of position for several months. You can't say the same for Van Schaik, who's been a center-back all his professional days (and because he's tall I presume he started out that way in youth football as well.) You could have Steven Hawking in nets, but you don't let the ball bounce over you the way he did, absolute basic stuff, and it's a brass neck to blame the goalie for that.

Van Skaik is the exception to the rule, he’s just pish no matter who’s behind him!

After last night's fantastic comeback under the lights, it's time to give you an update regarding MCT.

We were delighted to have Allan McGraw and George Anderson present David MacKinnon with a cheque for £6,000 last night. Please see the picture below of this being presented at half time on the pitch! This is the first of 24 payments that will help you make a difference to David Hopkin's first team budget. We are currently finalising the legalities surrounding an MCT representative on the GMFC board and we will ensure that any updates on this are posted on the Forum and our socials, so keep an eye out!

If you've yet to convert your pledge, please do so as quickly as possible! Check your e-mails for instructions to (quickly and easily) convert your pledge. If cannot find the e-mail or have any other questions/issues please get in touch with our pledges team.

If you've yet to pledge, this is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the short, medium and long term success of Greenock Morton. Your pledge not only gives an immediate boost to our first-team recruitment, but helps us shape the future of the club too. We want to unite the Morton support, stride for continued improvement on and off the pitch and ultimately create a debt-free, successful Morton. If you have any questions about any aspect of MCT, please reach out to us via the Forum, our socials or through e-mail and a member of our team will get back to you.

We need your help to move Morton forward, together.

Thanks,
Dean.

Well must admit initially I had not been bought over by this scheme.

But now appreciate that golden casket have stopped laying eggs whether or not they eat them their selves or not.

Surveying the landscape and the demise of another Ton 1874 team I accept it's the only survival strategy in town.

So up and on DD in the post.
