What does everyone else think of this?

By the looks and sound of things the steward(s) have made a real cunt of things over a nothing issue, but I don't think that the young boy was the angel that he is perhaps trying to portray himself to be. I think this situation could have been avoided for the club, the stewards and the supporter(s) concerned if there were actual police officers on duty at the game.

I think that we’re dealing with a total non-story - particularly as the wee bampot in question accepts that he was in fact illegally filming the match. He’s got no more right to complain about his treatment then than somebody who cracks open a bottle of Buckfast or sets off a flare at an SPFL match.

I also think that the Tele - who gave this a page of their print edition rag under a shrieking headline - should be put back in their box by the club in the very near future. Give them absolutely no access and force them to sell their paper with fucking egg chasing news instead.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Is it illegal to actually film SPFL games? Do we just let big Chris away with it?

Do keep up.

Morton and the SPFL don’t “let big Chris away with it”, big Chris lets Morton and the SPFL away with having such a rule, on the provision that it doesn’t affect Chris’s Morton TV. I’d have thought you’d have known that by now.

He was perhaps the first person that I thought about as I saw this. If he was treated like that at an away ground there would be no shortage of folk kicking up hell about it.

Saw the wee guy have a moan on twitter after the game and he didn't mention assault, just that he should be allowed to film when he wants.

Not saw the video or anything since but seems to be a change of story somewhere along the line.

Edit to add - it was someone else moaning but having watched the videos him and his mates are being wee wideos and it looks like he sat down when they were walking him out.

Not a fan of the stewards ag Cappielow in general but I think the Tele are making the most of this.

In fairness to the guy who actually wrote the story for the Tele, it's pretty measured. It starts with the fact that Morton are looking into it, rather than starting with the alleged incident itself.

No idea how true any of the kid's allegations are but this was interesting:

The youngster, from Dumfries, was being kicked out until an adult Queen of the South supporter intervened to tell security personnel that he should not be left to wander the streets on his own.

He was eventually allowed to remain for the second half, so long as he did not use his mobile again.

This is a difficult one. How much of a duty of care does a steward and/or the club have to a minor in this case? Is it Morton's responsibility to ensure he's in a supervised environment, or are they free to remove him? If they're free to remove him, should they "hand him over" to the police outside? It's actually quite an interesting question. My gut reaction is that they don't have a duty of care towards him once he leaves the stadium, legally speaking.

Is it illegal to actually film SPFL games?

It breaches the same, perfectly clear terms of entry to an SPFL match that carrying alcohol (which bear in mind can be legally carried in an open container on the street in the likes of Edinburgh) or any form of pyrotechnics would, so yes. Shan vlogs are rightly considered equivalent to Periscope broadcasts that could tangibly have an impact on the number of people actually attending the games.

I for one hope that ‘Chris’ Morton TV’ is next in line for this long overdue crackdown.

That doesn’t make it ‘pretty measured’ though. He also refers to the complainant as being there to support his ‘beloved Queens’ - a pure birthday caird pish adjective that is designed to engender sympathy for this bampot rather than the contempt that he rightly deserves.

The reporter also takes care to mention that said bampot films games ‘regularly’ and that the practice is ‘common among young fans up and down the country’ without ever acknowledging the critical fact that it’s, err, illegal up and down the country as well. Once again, if this was someone boasting about carrying a bottle of Buckfast into grounds up and down the country then I suspect that we wouldn’t be hearing this nonsense whataboutery argument in the local press after they got caught and emptied for it.

The only thing that has been ‘pretty measured’ here then is the degree of mock outrage that the Tele and its latest, Poundland Pulitzer wants to earn yet again at the expense of by far the most significant institution in its catchment area. It’s high time that they were placed in the sea.

It's been years since I've done any security work but I vaguely remember that kicking out weans was to be avoided.

In terms of duty of care, not sure if it was a legal thing but when I worked in a nightclub we were instructed that we had a duty of care to customers after they left the premises. Mainly making sure steaming lassies got in taxis and up the road rather than just being kicked out, but not sure if that was just a company policy or if there was more to it from a legal standpoint.

Yip, not supposed to be recording matches, stewards well within their rights to ask for this to stop.

What they absolutely can’t do, is physically touch anyone, even to take them gently by the arm and lead them out of the ground. They have no legal rights to do so, unless there is an ongoing breach of the peace.

Looking at the video, looks like the stewards have stuffed up and, by taking hold of the boy, have committed an assault.

There are some absolutely horrendous stewards at Cappielow. Some are completely confrontational and appear to love the ‘power’ that pulling on a high vis jacket gives them. A few need sacked...

I’ve made myself pretty unpopular on the boy’s wee pal’s Twitter thread about the incident, which is basically a collection of moon howlers calling it an absolute disgrace, and for the steward to be sacked and prosecuted for his actions.

As is often the case with social media of course, they’re too thick (or agenda driven) to stop for a second and think that there may actually be more to it than a couple of thirty second video clips suggest.

Interesting that Colin Darroch is saying above that the stewards can’t touch the boy unless there is an ongoing breach of the peace. Although, when questioned on the Twitter thread whether he knew there wasn’t a breach from the kid, and he was merely handled by the steward for the heinous crime of recording the game, giving no angry reaction whatsoever, Darroch scarpered.

That thread shows the absolute worst in people looking for something, anything, to be offended by, and to seek out a scapegoat because, well, just because.

That’s not to say the steward was acting appropriately of course, but we just don’t know- interesting that the posters on this supposed rag of a messageboard appear more reasoned and prepared to look at the pros and cons of each argument than was the case on Twitter, incidentally.

My favourite part of the Tele article though was when the kid said, “I think I’ve been specifically targeted because I was vulnerable”.

Really, wee man? My reading of the situation was that you’ve been specifically targeted because you’re the one who was breaking the ground regulations, rather than being the one that was vulnerable. I’ll be extremely disappointed if neither the Tele nor his own local rag have a picture of him with a petted lip, holding his match ticket.

The fact him and his mates are shouting and swearing at the steward don't show him as a vulnerable young boy either.

He's old enough to be at games himself and any 'assault' only happened after they took him aside to speak to him (which the videos also suggest was difficult for the stewards involved).

My first impression upon reading the wee guy's comments in the Tele were that he was milking it for all it's worth and/or that somebody had probably told him what to say. It just doesn't really seem like a natural way for a down-trodden wee guy to speak, does it?

Chances are the steward has been a bit of a fanny in the mix, but from the quotes alone the impression is that the wee guy isn't being entirely honest in his outrage.

Saw him and his pals kicking up a fuss about it all on twitter. The guy then made his YouTube video which contradicted a lot of what was said on twitter.

First off he attempted to get in as an under 12 but didn’t realise that he’d have to have an adult with him, then he admits when he steward asked him to stop filming he didn’t and kept going then he says when he was being escorted out he grabbed his pal and went to ground which is what the pals on twitter were claiming was the assault

Would agree that the boy and his pals were no doubt being pains... still can’t touch him. If he needed to be forcefully ejected from the ground the police should have been called.

Just watched the video and I think it's disgusting, no way should the steward be "pulling off" a 14 year old
